Hey there, I am wondering about how to play hands like AK22-AK55 ds. Thus far I have completely ignored them by just clicking on the fold button, but I bet it is a huge EV leak 😃. I used to watch Herr Nandez live PLO streams and he opened rather often with such hands in MP, CU, BU and furthermore called down 3-bets.

The first question would be about the range. First of all, should we play AK+any DS pair or should we exclude AK22, AK66, AK77 for example?
And could we also play hands like a pair+AQ/AJ ds? I personally would consider AQ totally fine too or what do the professionals say?

Second question would be about the position. These hands seem to be set-miners in 3-bet pots, almost like small pairs in NH. Do we care about the position at all? Could we open with them on LJ, HJ?

Third question would be about 3-bet pots. I believe that it is self-explanatory that if we hit a set on flop, we could not fold anymore (unless there is a straight or flush out there), because the SPR is just close to 4 or am I mistaking here?

And finally ... facing a cold 4-bet and two opponents makes this hand an automatic fold, right?

Long story short it's an open from pretty much everywhere DS, as well as SS NFD tho the EV of like AKss44 from UTG isn't that high so if you're on a smaller BR/looking to reduce variance I'd just muck it esp in a low stakes higher rake environment. Higher stakes/lower rake you can play them

Can't quite treat AKxxds as if it were AKo in nlhe, but not miles off. I might fold the weakest of it, but most can be considered borderline premium. With any pair it's a juicy hand. How often will we have AK44ds and flop nfd + bds + set draw vs a raggedy 2p? Our hand then is basically the same as op+nfd.

Makes a good 3betting hand too because we block their 4b range. Generally easy to play.

That makes a lot of sense. Thank you. I probably try to play them MP, CU, BU from now on I guess.

Not sure whether I would like to try 3-betting them IP at micro stakes 😀. People gamble a lot there and if they are tilted, then they shove with pretty much everything. Last hand I was all in with was AAxx aginst the 4-bet Ts9s9x3x 😃

Such people generally mark themselves out early. Btn vs co, 100bb deep, a 3b will show a profit with these hands against basically everyone. Against those who 4b shite, well, you've got enough to go with it.

It might feel sucky to lose to TT42r unimproved but that's the game. Embrace the variance.
