[1/2 Live] Folded JJ to Turn Raise – Feel Like I Got Outplayed Like a Chicken

[1/2 Live] Folded JJ to Turn Raise – Feel Like I Got Outplayed Like a Chicken

Had this hand earlier at 1/2, $450 eff. Two players limp, I raise to $20 with JhJd, both call. Pot around $60.

Flop: Kh Th 7s
Checks around — I check back.

Turn: 2c
Checks to me again, I bet $25 into ~$65. First limper calls. Second limper snap-raises to $135. I tanked for a bit, but I double-block a ton of natural semi-bluffs (QJ, J9, hearts), so I ended up folding. First limper folded too.

Villain shows me 33.

I felt like I made a good fold in theory — multiway, large raise, double blockers to bluffs — but now I just feel like I got outplayed and played like a chicken. Guess he saw my flop check + small turn stab as weak and pounced.

Any thoughts? Was my fold still justifiable? Or should I have adjusted to the dynamic and looked him up?

K high flop is pretty good to CBet. If I check here, I am likely to call the turn and call down.

You probably should have just checked again instead of making a bet that could have invited a bluff-raise.

You played it fine, I wouldn’t expect a lot of low stakes players to take this spot. Nice play by him.

Would your villains checked the flop with AK in your position?

If the answer is no, it is time to play to their expectations. The most common hand your villains a low stakes will put a pfr is AK.

Grunch:

PRE - limpers don't like to limp-fold. The fact they both called makes me wonder if they wouldn't have called a slightly larger raise, or if we might have gotten this heads up.

FLOP - I probably c-bet when they check to us, and consider taking a free card on the turn if our c-bet gets called. We'll have a lot of KX in our range that can bet for value here, and this board is likely to get scary on future streets.

TURN - As played to this point, when they both check to you again, I think we have the green light to make a larger delayed c-bet. I probably would have potted it.

My reasoning is that we fare to have the best hand here a lot when they check to us twice. Their ranges are going to have a lot of TX and draws that are somewhat inelastic after we check back flop.

If we bet small, it sucks to get check-raised. But I'm never folding to a min-click on this board. Yeah, we block some obvious bluffs, but not all of them. V could have 98s, for example. But mostly, I wouldn't fold here because his line doesn't make much sense, when he checks twice and then raises on a total brick. What's he repping here? 72? 22? I'm not buying it, especially not when he takes this sizing.

Also, the fact that we bet small can sometimes induce spazzy stuff from opponents, precisely because it does look weak. But we're getting such a price to continue. I think we have to just call this off, especially when we're in position, and can play 5th street chicken.
