Strange turn bet from the villain

Strange turn bet from the villain

Would appreciate any comments - pre/flop, flop, turn. Beginning to play after a long break.

SB: 81 bb
BB (Hero): 125 bb
UTG: 299 bb
UTG+1: 87 bb
MP: 124 bb
MP+1: 193 bb
CO: 123 bb
BTN: 167 bb (9 Q)

Pre-flop:

UTG-MP fold
MP+1 raise 2 bb
BTN call 2 bb
SB call 1.5 bb
BTN call 1 bb

Flop (8 bb)

4 3 7

SB-BTN check

Turn (8 bb)

9

SB check
BB bet 6 bb
MP+1 raise 12 bb
BTN-SB fold
BB call 6 bb

River (32 bb)

A

BB-MP1 check

This turn raise puzzled me. What sensible hand could play like that? A ready-made straight? Another nine? I called just because it seemed odd and perhaps I could find something odd at showdown if it gets there...

With this MP+1, I played only 20 hands and his VPIP was around 20% (the table requires 25%+ VPIP after 40 hands).

What are your thoughts?

Really? I was wondering why you called Q9o preflop!

It was in a private club on ClubGG.

Also, am I wrong by assuming that 1:7 pot odds preflop make it an easy call?

Yes, you need to win the hand atleast 1:7 of the time and multiway just hitting Q or 9 won't be enough (most of the time)

Q9o seems weak to me OOP in multiway pot, folding this. Hands I like in such situation are suited connectors or pocket pair to setmine, OOP multiway playing passively until I flop set or some straight/flush draws.

In general you should avoid situations like this, bottom pair in big pot, there are plenty of better spots where you can make money on micro imo.
