Jazz Casual with Ralph Gleason
Cannonball Adderley Quintet (1961)
Nat Adderley, cornet
Cannonball Adderley, alto sax
Joe Zawinul, piano
Sam Jones, acoustic double bass
Louis Hayes, drums
around the 5:00 minute mark starts an enthralling conversation with Cannonball about his theory of blues in jazz that continues until the end
the entire lineup is one degree separated from some of the most influential recordings in jazz history
this may be the first live - if not ever - recording of Wayne Shorter with Miles, Herbie, Ron, and Tony
The Steve Allen Show
early Sept '64 wines yielded miles of vintage timbre from the vines as evident by the embouchure mouth feel on the lips and his continuously trumpeting reminder to listen by always tapping earlobes
for context their first album release together, E.S.P., was put on tape four months later Jan '65
once upon an old time me would consider this blasphemy
but i believe the bass strings of an unaltered Ron Carter are poised to ascend past the altar our very own Saint John
I am from Cincinnati. It's a great jazz town as Cal Collins tells us in this beer commercial.
But I didn't bring you here for a beer commercial. I was privileged to know Cal and his wife Susie during his last years. In this video, you can see on his face how much Benny Goodman loved Cal.
More great Cincinnati jazz to come.
The piano player here is Steve Schmidt. Great player, he never liked me because I was always hanging out in the band room smoking weed and cuz don't smoke weed. The drummer is John von Ohlen. He was Rosemary Clooney's boyfriend and one of my favorite drummers of all time. Reminds me of Gene Krupa.
Kenny Poole played every week at a restaurant I worked at in the 90s for I think it was $35 and a meal. He would sit in the non-smoking section playing and chainsmoking. Not one customer ever said anything about it either. I always tried to make sure Kenny was well fed but in this clip he's painfully thin because dying of cancer.
If you don't know Abbey Lincoln, you should. She was a great singer, actor, composer, and activist. Check out the personnel on her album Straight Ahead. Here's Abbey doing a classic. She was married to Max Roach.

Cigarette Summer Baby
Y'all are not ready for this
I know no one gives a **** but one thing I find interesting is that Singers Unlimited is using the perfect harmonic series (just intonation) while Peterson is locked into the equal temperament of the piano tuning.
Peterson knows exactly what he is doing and lightly plays the blues under their harmonies and doesn't go nuts until he's solo.
It sounds like they are floating on opium clouds. ****ing beautiful.
Also this guy just popped up in my recs and it caused me to remember I saw Mose once in a little jazz club. Coolest cat ever.
It's kind of fun remembering a drunken druggy life, kinda like having a form of amnesia. One time I found out I saw Public Enemy on the Welcome to the Terrordome tour! Then I started to remember it.

Broken YouTube LinkLover in I have no idea.
Broken YouTube LinkSimilar to Phat Mack's comment on the Peterson song you posted, I'm a big Chick Corea fan and never knew this existed. Nice!
Have you seen this? Patitucci and Colaiuta go so hard Chick doesn't know what time it is and has to ask Vinnie for One. At 7:06 you see Chick go ONE?! and Vinnie splashes on the one and Chick goes Ohhh! And Patitucci is amused.
that version of Yesterday Princess was crushed velvet
also enjoyed their gradual transition by degrees from acoustic to electric
happy to see you hang around for a bit wolff
please feel encouraged to share whatever jazz you find enjoyable
Thanks, man, I appreciate it!
I've probably been browsing, reading and lurking in this thread for 10 years now, which is pretty crazy.
I'm a big fan of Jaco and think he was a fantastic composer.
Here is a fairly obscure vid of the Portinho Trio doing a cover of Jaco's Liberty City (Klaus Mueller on keys) .

Never saw this -- thanks! I'm 2 minutes in right now and, damn, this is so good.
Great video quality and sound for the time period as well.
Speaking of Trane I have been with his wife in a deeply spiritual sense this whole weekend
