I learned to play golf at Oscar Bloom, 9 holes, only par 3s, $1 to play. They even had lights so you could play at night. As a kid I couldn't understand why people thought golf was elitist. Literally across the street was Springfield's best public course, now named after local legend Payne Stewart and his father.

in san antonio in the 50s and 60s, school kids could buy a monthly pass for a dollar or two. this would allow you to play public courses free after 4PM, and at a discount during the day. plus, they sponsored lessons and tournies etc.

I never heard of golf described as elitist until i was in my 20s, and then i assumed anybody saying that was insane.

i doubt programs like that still exist. I meet few people who care about kids anymore.

the First Tee program is very robust across the country: https://firsttee.org/locations/

the portland group has a caddie program for tweenagers that offers great money potential for a summer job at that age https://firstteeoregon.org/caddie-progra...

and the 9 hole par 3 Children's Course charges $8 for those 17 and under:

youth golf is robust in the northleft

My question is the jacket? It is pretty much smack dab middle of summer? Jackets are needed? I will admit I'm bringing a windbreaker to Alaska but really hoping I don't need it.

The jacket is a thin windbreaker, and this was around 7:00 pm. Temps probably in mid-fifties and windy. I don't think the temps got above the low sixties.

Now in NYC. About 80 right now with about 99 per cent humidity. We were going to go to the botanical garden in Brooklyn, but said **** it. Temps in mid-nineties tomorrow.

Also, staying in a hotel that has elevator operators. I left a couple shirts hanging over a chair this morning. When I got back to the room tonight, the shirts had been neatly folded, the bed turned down, and bottles of water left on the bedside tables.

One day, I hope soon, we will wake up to the news that the orange buffoon is dead. I long for that day.

OK, I guess IÂ’m a hypocrite or whatever, but it would be hilarious if there was a Skynyrd style result to this aircraftÂ’s maiden flightΓ‚β€”casualties including the lead singer, the blonde backup singer, the flashy new guy, and the assistant road manager, especially if the first two were found relatively intact together in a rear compartment (which was NOT the case with Skynyrd).

I doubt his replacement would be any better.

I just yesterday added losing a previous election for POTUS as a personal automatic DQβ€”similar to having a close relative who has previously served (sorry JQA Ben Harrison W HRC, judges are reviewing FDR)β€”for becoming POTUS.

This spares us Jefferson Jackson Bill Harrison Cleveland 2 Nixon & Trump 2.

Unfortunately I still haven’t found a way to prevent LBJ’s Administration yet.

I think those are used to make it difficult to pull apart the socks.

Lost my wallet in a NYC cab somewhere in midtown. Company finally contacted the driver and told me to call him. He brought the wallet from midtown to 190th St.

No charge!

Mary was the elevator operator. She told me I looked cool. She got a good tip. Kind of a swanky hotel.

Let's see some pics from the trip. It sounds great.

Scalia mentioned the SCOTUS elevator operator during oral arguments of an employment discrimination case.

It’s almost like increasing the human population by over 150% in fifty years along with enormous economic growth and unimaginable technological advances might have negative environmental consequences.

I haven't flown in over 20 years. You just turn up at the airport with a ticket, some luggage of a size within reason, and take the first seat available, right? WTF happened?

pretty much this, unless in a car for hire to and fro Edi or Gla

Broncos put half-price tickets on sale today. I don't know all the details, but part of the agreement for public funding of the stadium is that they would provide some more-affordable tickets.

Found one for the Packers game here 12/14. According to the 3d seat view sorta thing, I'll be on the 50. Near the top of the stadium, of course. Essentially the midfield camera view.

Hopefully it won't be too cold. Turns out, ~$92 is half price for that seat.

Here's what to avoid in NYC. The women want to go to a shoe store in SOHO. I walked around why they spent at least an hour or more trying on shoes (they said they wouldn't be long). Lines for everything. Couldn't even grab a coffee because of the lines.

Worse. I don't think I saw three people even close to my age. Went by a clothing store (never heard of the brand) that had at least a hundred kids waiting to get in.
These "influencers" are turning kids into mindless consumers.
