I had to invoke Sly.

curious John
did you have even a second of walking the streets of NYC with a woman latched to the crooked elbow of each arm?
if so, where is the photographical evidence

Well, we did walk through Central Park and along the Upper West side, but not arm in arm. Alas, no photographic evidence.

Nice
Wow, that's a nice picture. Glad you got a chance to see the mountain.
Hope you're able to see all kinds of interesting flora and fauna as well.
Proper mountain.
indeed Denali is a proper mountain
used to work with a guy who finally climbed it on his third attempt
they made it as far as base camp the first two trips but weather defied forecasts and never cleared
he once shared a photo taken from the summit as the sun rose behind him
as far as i know the shadow he cast could have stretched for a thousand miles
It's a beautiful morning at Denali. I was afraid we were going to get skunked. Apparently you can only see the mountain 30% of the time. The first two days were a bust. But this morning I woke up and boom there it was.
Must be something irl. I imagine the air smells great up there too.
At a family dinner tonight one of my cousins told me her 12yo grandson was very excited when he realized that his dad’s (b 1980) upcoming birthday will be the square root of the current year.
i miss slide shows
happy to pay a nickle son to ask if any other or just that particular one
specifically reminded me just this past weekend i parked my car overnight within a quarter mile radius of the place where this scene was filmed
do not remember needing to hold anything but also did not eat a meal

It seems as though I went through a couple of decades in my twenties and thirties where friends would leave town for their summer vacations in Spain or Italy or wherever. Then they would come back. Then they would invite people over for dinner. Then they would tell us about their trip. Then the announcement: And now for our slides!
So Hubby would set up the projector, and the Little Woman would wrestle the screen into submission, and off would go the lights.
Now I have to say that I have had a long and contentious relationship with photography, and this relationship was often very stormy in my younger days, and this would lead me, sometimes, upon hearing the announcement of the slideshow, to make what can only be described as a Remark.
Some of these remarks I have come to regret. (Mike and Suzanne, I hope you are reading this.)
But if the truth were told, I loved these slide shows and often got quite a kick out of them.
Today, I wish somebody would invite me over to see their summer-vacation slides, but I fear these random, senseless, drive-by acts of spontaneous sociability have disappeared from American life.

Golddog may be willing to testify that I get excited (just like a golden retriever does when told he's going for a ride in the car) when people show me pictures from their vacation.
Now, your assignment is to watch La JetΓ©e, after which John will lead a group discussion on Chris Marker's magnificent achievement. Private sources inform me that John may be preparing to spring a pop quiz, so take notes.
What Mack says is true. And, I'm glad for his (and all you guys') interactions over in my blog.
La Jette is the ultimate slide show, interrupted by only a few seconds of film.
This is also the first film I show my students. I introduce it with "And now for something completely different," but they don't get the Monty Python reference.

Must be vapor being blown off the surface???

the bird doesn't seem too excited
yes i am on instagram and have mostly steered the titanic zuckerberg alog toward avoiding common influenza detritus while also fine tuning participation in streams of wonderful photographic content from amateur documentarians around the world
it will never replace the smell of a hot projector lamp
or tv tray on lap
being strobed while sitting on a darkened family room folding chair surrounded by other humans
in ten second increments a double-click announced when our initial confused reactions would forever be captured in the memory our hosts
My uncle is visiting this week, so we busted gma out of the home for a few days, she'll turn 105 in 2 months. Today we watched a bunch of old 8mm videos, via the projector, from every decade 40's through 70's. It was fun. C'mon up in October Phat, we'll do it again for her birthday, lol.
