The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

Do we know why they took the deal? It seems so weird they gain nothing being the first to fold. actually in further thought it makes sense for japan and korea to be the first to buckle since they are literally at the wim of the united states to defend them from local treats. japan a little less but definitely south korea.

But the eu? no ****ing clue

they need enerygy since russia closed shop.
its wasnt a big effort to decide to buy energy from the US and calming trump in the process .

Canada on the other hand doesnt need energy at all.
bit more complicated .

anyway , trump might changed his mind in the next year and wanting to change the EU deal or w.e idiotic thing relating to them...
mind as well take the hard line now .

since when did russia close shop? last I heard Europe is supplying their war economy via oil

by Shifty86

No infrastructure and no foreign market is going to risk their relationship with the USA.

Well we do have the port of Churchill which can be expanded. We know no new trade infrastructure is going to happen with BC and Quebec's current governments

As for these new trade deals with EY and Japan yes there are 15% tariffs but the rest of it are mainly future promises. Many of these countries hoping to get past a Trump term and than a new Dem or Republican

Does the USA have all this liquified natural gas to ship as well

by uke_master

Well it's a good thing we have a (pretty good) criminal justice system so that the mob rule of far-right nutjobs listing off examples of people with immigrant-sounding-names and giving a half sentence of context isn't the one who gets to decide these things. Like you get that "hey look at the bad [insert immigrant archetype]" has been a hallmark of racism for like forever, righ

Sorry for you I am 100% responsible pro immigration and 100% for deporting those that commit heinous sexual crimes or other crimes. Canadian Citizenship is a privilege . If it was a white norwegian that tried to buy sex from a 15 year old id be for deporting him as well

I know your for the mutilation of children but never thought you would support the sexual exploitation of minors

by MoViN.tArGeT

Do we know why they took the deal?

Defense, they need the USA to keep protecting them.

by uke_master

wtf sick hole of the internet have you found that is obsessed with highlighting people with indian names interacting with canada's criminal justice system?

Very racist of you to highlight they are Indian names. Not sure why it matters they're Indian other than that you're clearly a racist.

They're immigrants who committed crimes. Deport right now.

by Shifty86

Aah yes the good old defense all these countries need. Just like Canada upping its defense spending so that we can be protected from who exactly? The US? They're the only ones who've threatened our sovereignty recently.

Like Germany, Europe learn their lesson it seems .

AI Overview

Yes, Europe has significantly reduced its reliance on Russia for energy supplies, particularly natural gas, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022. While the EU was heavily reliant on Russian gas in the past, with up to 45% of its gas imports coming from Russia, this has drastically dropped to below 10%. This reduction was achieved through the EU's REPowerEU plan, which aimed to diversify energy sources and reduce dependence on Russia

I for one have reached the point were Israel is guilty of genocide but Carney with his recognizing Palestine is a state is just nuts . All his conditions means it will never happen so why do it .

I am always curious why the an arrest warrant has been issued for Ben Nat but not the Hamas leaders as well

It's doing something without actually doing something. If the US wasn't owned by Israel other nations could do more than just recognize a Palestinian state. Like bomb the **** out of Israel.

Also, and I mean this respectfully, but if you feel this way because Trump issued a statement and somehow concluded that coming to a trade agreement with Canada is ''much more difficult now'' because they recognize a Palestinian state, you need to grow some balls.

I am always curious why the an arrest warrant has been issued for Ben Nat but not the Hamas leaders as well

Well, they're dead first of all but second of all there were arrest warrants issued against Yahya Sinwar, Ismail Haniyeh and Mohammed Deif. Pretty sure they amended this warrant in November 2024 because 2 of the 3 are dead.

On the basis of evidence collected and examined by my Office, I have reasonable grounds to believe that Yahya SINWAR (Head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (“Hamas”) in the Gaza Strip), Mohammed Diab Ibrahim AL-MASRI, more commonly known as DEIF (Commander-in-Chief of the military wing of Hamas, known as the Al-Qassam Brigades), and Ismail HANIYEH (Head of Hamas Political Bureau) bear criminal responsibility for the following war crimes and crimes against humanity committed on the territory of Israel and the State of Palestine (in the Gaza strip) from at least 7 October 2023:

lol well you seem delightful.

Why is it "just nuts"? Most countries recognize Palestine. Canada moved in tandem with it's G7 partners UK and France. That might piss Trump off, but this idea that you think there is a genocide happening but the only condemnation you can seem to find is that idea of recognizing the victims of the genocide is "just nuts"?

Cute. I get that you're trying to be edgy - looks you've got a new buddy who will applaud along to lines like this - but it mostly just makes you look like a blithering idiot. Like I get that you ran as fast as possible to this thread to give your little list of supposedly bad immigrants doing bad things, but somehow managing to jump to think I "support the sexual exploitation of minors" is the kind of discrediting take that you should be deeply, deeply embarrassed to have uttered.

But you won't be.

What a funny moment Canada is in. On one side - we suddenly have a weird competitive advantage. Because 90% of goods (with a flurry of late paperwork) are CUSMA-compliant, we get zero tariffs on a tonne of our economy and have a competitive advantage against all these other countries with 15%+ tariffs. But on other more specific industries we have uniquely high tariffs and are getting absolutely roasted. Man it would be so hard to be in Carney's shoes, hard to even suggest what the right moves are supposed to be.

I understand what your saying but that only lasts for a year and its not like were going to boost production to take advantage of that (were canada) and the unknown in a year makes it risky. short term is should actually increase Canadian prices too since more would go to the us

Mostly the point is it doesn't really hurt a wide swatch of canadian export businesses in the short term. The big take away for me is that CUSMA renegotiations are the super important long game, and actually more important then the very short term. Something like "tariff free for most goods, 15% like EU on non-compliant things" that would be a fantastic outcome on a relative basis. Whether that is remotely possible or how much we will have to give up is unclear.

No my point was Carney pledges to recognize Palestine at the next UN summit or meeting and I assume other countries as well. Why would Hamas agree to ceasefire till that summit. Hamas is all about the PR

Yes what is going on in Palestine is terrible but Im sorry I don't trust anything from and organization that starts with Hamas ie Hamas Health Organization .

Funny little timbit on Justin Trudeau

in 2019 he promised to plant 2 billion trees by 2030 as of 2024 when he left he had planted 160 million Of course the excuse but its hard to keep promises

The same year the Ethiopian Prime Minister promised to plant 50 billion trees by 2026 Despite his country facing conflict and rampant poverty he's planted 40 billion trees

turns out its a lot easier to plant trees with Ethiopian labor. im not sure how Canada has an advantage in that one. This Palestinian state stuff is all for show because obviously were not going to support a state run by terrorists. right...? right...? I loved how in his speech he was like "we will give a date to accept them but its not today and not if hamas is in power but they totally will be on that date but w/e" Was very weird

If its some weird strategy to make a trade coalition against the states with the Frances of the world im ok with his weirdness I guess

Like Germany, Europe learn their lesson it seems .

no Reuters reported a 37% increase of oil from Russia to Europe last month. alto that was partially because the month before was slow because of maintenance. its been increasing since 2024 tho after it was decreased in 2022-2023

Ok great , something that just happens like 2-3 weeks ago, so ok u won …..
what was happening the last 3 years meant nothing .

Btw they are still vastly lower then pre ukrayne war shrug.

like i said it went down but its going up now over a long sample now not just a single month. as reported by that article but I think its just one company anyway. even that graph kind of supports that with a level off at the end at the start of 2025. I assume if 2026 was added to that graph it is going up. also a big reason they stopped buying it is because they physically can't a pipeling blew up and another went under Ukraine which they recently stopped

by uke_master

I mean either getting the identical deal as EU or as Korea or as Japan would all be horrible for Canada - our dependency on the US is insane. Although I do agree with Shifty for once, this magical "just diversify markets" is mostly a pipedream, like if we had competitive advantages before we would have diversified already, and getting free trade agreements is going to be even h

by Shifty86

Yeah that was a joke to deflect . I am not sure what Carney's next move is other than to let Trump give it to him .

Its been 6 months and basically nothings happened. Provincial trade barriers up. Forestry, steel and Aluminum screwed . Im not sure what Carney's plan is . Im not sure he knows

Slogan should be bend over and turn around

lol conservatives getting irrationally mad at “elbows up” will never cease to amuse me. Hey did you guys see that the polling shows Carney getting a solid majority if election held today? Sorry the whole “Canadians were duped by elbows up” narrative is something in your head.

Remember when lozen thought Trump would be good for Canada (and shifty a fulll fledged trumper). Talk about being duped.
