THE ICONIC Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM is set to be canceled after a stunning 20-year run, sources exclusively told The U.S. Sun.
Stern, 71, who has had a mega-bucks contract for decades at the subscription satellite radio provider, will likely cut some sort of deal for Sirius to keep his catalogue upon his exit, sources said.
"Stern's contract is up in the fall and while Sirius is planning to make him an offer, they don't intend for him to take it," one insider said of the impending end to the shock jock's latest five-year contract.
"Sirius and Stern are never going to meet on the money he is going to want. It's no longer worth the investment."
The insider added that fans may expect Sirius to strike a deal for his library.
"But as far as him coming back to doing the show, there's no way they can keep paying his salary," the source said.
i will agree he always says he wants to retire during contract talks but legit he last 2 years, the amount of live shows have been less and less
wouldn't surprise me,.
amazing run regardless
Let's be serious, the show has been completely awful for years. It was already waning during the AGT days, but it hit the point of no return during COVID.

hate to say it but idk when he started therapy but whenever he hit the halfway point is when the show went downwards.
i get times have to change and you cant be as raunchy or whatever as you were in the 90s, but the sharp turn in the last decade made for a diff space and diff show for better or worse at times but HE wanted that.
he despises this talks and people who say that but I do miss the old howard who wouldn't care about who he called out or talked about.
last time I really saw him dig in at someone besides trump was gaborey sidibe 10+ years ago calling her fat and how Hollywood was doing her an injustive calling ger beautiful

2001 during his divorce.
timeline of the show's demise:
2009 - Artie Lange is fired from show.
2011 - Howard joins AGT and gets a taste A+ celebrity treatment by all, not just Stern Show fans. Selling out is imminent.
2012 - Marci Turk is hired to whip staff into s... so that Howard doesn't have to spearhead the process and look like the bad guy.
2013 - Pelican Brief summit is held. As someone in the YouTube-comments said, it is "a 58 minute version of Howard telling his staff on how to say WNBC."
the show has been unlistenable to anyone with a sense of humor for about 15 years, but i suppose all the new AGT-soccer moms have been loving Howard sucking up to Ellen, Oprah and whoever else. i've watched a few video clips from the past few years with the new staff and it's just cringe. none of these dudes have a funny bone in their body.
thankfully full episodes from the golden years are readily available to listen to on youtube and other places!
As much of an untalented comedian as Artie Lange may be, he certainly did have a knack for stirring up entertaining drama, which is the best part of the Howard Stern Show. Pulling up "The Bro Fight" or "The Hack Pack" will never get old. Hard to believe that was almost twenty years ago. All that stuff is readily available on YouTube, thankfully.
Maryann is going to be crushed.
Shortly after the Artie suicide attempt is when I finally gave up on the show. Seems like that was at the end of year in 2009 and 2010 was when he would have been actually fired? Seems insane it'll be 20 years since the move to Sirius. While I haven't listened to the show in 15 years, this entire time I still put on old best of's, History of Howard Stern and Gilbert appearances I downloaded every night when I go to bed as white noise. Some of that stuff never gets old.

Artie's last day was December 9, 2009. 50 Cent was the guest.
I listened to Lars for a few minutes this morning. The idea that Howie is some great interviewer is so laughable. He asks Lars an interesting question and then Lars says something...here comes Howie interrupting so we never actually get to hear the response
Over and over again...unlistenable

good post.
the pelican brief was hilarious. but yeah i think the show really really turned anew corner a few years after artie left. also like I said above, post thats the last time i really saw howard go in on hollywood

Ive said this multiple times, he absolutely was the first GOAT interviewer. call it new medium or whatnot but he was amazing interview inhe 90s actually talked about relevant stuff none of this boring bullshit ad naseum questions we get. people have caught on but his interviews in late 90s and early 00s are amazing.
like the rich cronin interview which waas great, wo teh **** else was gettign that out of anyoen esle? i am asking you that quesiton to you, who the **** else woudl get all that info out of rich besides howard?? at that time
The whole "Howard is a great interviewer" bit is complete nonsense which is pushed by the show. Asking celebrities about their mother issues and making the same "remember this song" joke, over and over again, is not entertaining or interesting. The only people I have ever actually heard say that Howard is a great interviewer were on the Howard Stern Show. Nobody outside of there legitimately thinks that his Paul McCartney interview belongs in a museum or whatever other masturbatory bullshit they want to sell that day. The guy can't even be bothered to come into the studio to interview somebody. If there is one thing that really annoys me about the show is the incessant propaganda that Stern is, or has eve, been, a good interviewer.

what makes this post hilarious to me is that if you ever watch any interview with Beetlejuice, you'll notice that Howard INSTANTLY shuts up the very second Beet utters anything. Howard could be in the middle of a long sentence and just stfu immediately. he really was the Wack Pack Whisperer, until he became too highbrow to have them part of the show.

so rich cronin or any interview he did in the 90 or 00s was good?
I'll grant he does get some stuff out of celebs that others may not, but I think it's simply because of the long form, not because he's some kind of celeb whisperer. His interviews consist of him rushing to get to the question of Daddy Issues as quick as he can so he can whine about his daddy some more.
So I had to look up who Rich Cronin was, as I am not as up to date with the boy bands as most. Here is the thing: he may have been able to do an entertaining interview or two. I wouldn't know if that particular interview was good, as I would never stick around to listen to a long interview of somebody that I not only was completely unfamiliar with, but would somehow be less interested in if I did know who he was. The vast majority of the interviews that I have heard Howard do on his show have been worse than boring. He was also somehow able to do the opposite, where he would just be a massive dickhead to a random celebrity to the point that it was cringe (Anna Nicole Smith comes to mind). Either way, it is not what I find interesting and I highly doubt that the majority of listeners would disagree that the interviews are the worst part of the show, past and present.
Howard's interviews during the '90s and early '00s were for the most part fantastic.
the Rich Chronin interview is incredible.
don't know how anyone that's been a fan for decades could claim otherwise.
I listen on Sirius now, until he starts blathering on about playing the guitar and then I'm done...

that what imsaying, not sure how anyone can say his itnerviews in the 90s or early 00s weren't good.
yes maybe he was fortunate with the medium but still, def more entratiing than the others
Eh the celebrity interviews never really interested me. The 20 minute condensed versions of them for the E show were okay. He got some good revelations over the years because he could ask questions and talk about subjects a Letterman or Leno or Good Morning America type shows couldn't but it really depended on the guest. A Pamela Anderson or Donald Trump type who would talk about anything could be fun but most celebrities were still pretty boring. Post divorce is when he started playing shrink rather than interviewer and started being a chore to get through them.
Never heard of this Rich Cronin guy or his band so I'd need some context on why this interview is so good before I commit to watching it.

Rich Cronin was the frontman/writer of LFO that had this huge summer smash. he died on september 10, 2008, about 19 months after this interview of a second stroke caused by his leukemia treatment. RIP!
read the youtube comments and these posts if you need more reasons to listen to it. boy band creator/manager/user Lou Pearlman is exposed and dating Jennifer Love Hewitt is discussed.
to be fair, Rich made this interview great and it would've been even better if Howard stfu. bad example, but certainly worth a listen!
