My Thoughts on the firing of the BLS Commissioner

I spent over 6 years working for the Census Bureau, of which three and a half were spent in Statistical Methods Division

My thought on the firing of the BLS commissioner are that it was the first time in 2 trump terms i actually do agree with Rococo and others , that Trump is behaving like a third world dictator (and a dumb one at that). That's not because he doesn't have the power to fire the commissioner (he does, and exercising it isn't per se dictatorial at all), but because the rationale laid

I did. I can't be the only one left.

I used one too of course. Calculators only became affordable when I was about 13 but the national curriculum took a while to catch up.

My grandad who was about 75 at the time said it was a waste of money and sought to prove this to me by multiplying two random three digit numbers in his head faster than I could get the answer from the calculator. He was successful every time.

The Donald Trump thread is always on the first page

Many of the major economic needles in the US is currently pointing down and the shift in direction coincides with shift in presidential administration. This is likely in part due to economic policy and in part due to how incompetently said policy is carried out.

Right. After the good jobs report much was written about why the reports weren't much worse as many people, experts and novices alike expected. I doubr it has anything to do with what OP ia talking about, but the best speculation I heard was that areas of employment that are historically very stable like local government, schools etc were hit hard by Trump policies and when you're doing honest modeling stuff like that greatly reduces you're accuracy. It;s actually good that the BLS didn't go in and manually make "feel" based alterations because you want to minimize human bias as much as possible in automated modeling. But actual competence counts for pretty much nothing in the trump administration.

Gotta sell a feeling. But it doesn't even seem like the "intended" feeling is meant to be taken seriously. Weird times.

FWIW , maybe a worthwhile small enlightenment for mason and others on how those survey number are being done .

It starts at 15m25sec mark .

The new BLS commissioner is the guy who didn't know that the import price index is ex-tariffs

Hiring a guy with zero real world experience MAY be correct though.

Hiring competent people who have pre-existing reputations to protect has never been the goal of this administration. To the contrary, the administration's goal is to hire people who feel elevated by and entirely beholden to Trump.

As long as he reports that in July the US created 100m+ new jobs he's good.

On the plus side, he apparently has done a bunch of Fox News hits with a Nazi battleship wall painting directly behind him so he’s probably big history buff.

The guy is certainly qualified for the job. You can look at the "womans" face who was fired and can tell she is extremely biased.

He is not qualified to teach economics in a tier 3 college man. He is a fraud, a disgrace, an embarassement for us on the right. Not only we don't need to cover for blatant mistakes like this, we do need to make it very clear we don't accept compromises on crucial stuff like economic data.

We aren't the left, we don't put people into position of power because they are the right gender or race or they sucked the right dicks

The only qualification he needs is bending his knee to the pedo in chief.

The Heritage Foundation do not recruit "embarassments". They have been one of the most highly esteemed think tanks in American history and are the brilliant minds behind Project 2025. He got his PhD from NIU which is not a bad university.

Yeah it’s very promising

Jessica Riedl, a former Heritage Foundation research fellow now at the conservative Manhattan Institute, said articles and online posts by Antoni “are probably the most error-filled of any think tank economist right now.” Jeremy Horpedahl of the libertarian Cato Institute said Antoni “either massively misunderstands labor market data, or he is willing to lie repeatedly about after being corrected by dozens of economists.” Stan Veuger of the American Enterprise Institute, often described as a center-right think tank, called Trump’s BLS pick “utterly unqualified and as partisan as it gets.”

Another rfk jr in the making …

RFK JR is not part of the modern day right

RFK was just a political appointment to garner votes and his endorsement.

Well they were instrumental in defeating Roe v. Wade and helping reduce the genocide of African Americans in Planned Parenthood

They have done more for human rights than any other organization today

i don't know how well educated (formally or informally, i don't care) you are on economics. I am very very well educated on that. I can smell a fraud from a mile. He is a fraud. His tweets reveal that.

rfk is a lifelong democrat so all criticism to him, should be directed to the party who hosted him for decades

they helped achieve the current scotus, the best in 90 years. Heritage is good, very good. This pick for BLS is terrible.

Give me an example of what you believe to be a bad university in the United States.

Well that is related a lot on economics and the BLS isn’t ….
