AQ $10 straddle
Posting for a friend who is trying to get back in the saddle on cash games (has not played consistently in recent years), I play mostly Omaha and would prefer some further advice.
Game is $10 on the button, $500 min buy uncapped, players are sitting with anwhere from $500-$3k. As he claims, its either $10-$15 to go and straddle checks option or $50+ to go pre, very little 3bΓβs. Hero is swingy player, prefers post flop play very wide calling range pre. Hero has fishy image from showdown hands such as Q3 and 67 that called a raise pre and won at showdown.
7handed
Hero ~$400 (BTN): AQhh straddles $15
2 MP limpers
V1 $3000k (HJ) somewhat tilted raises to $125
V2 $500 (CO) cold calls $125, no real info on player
Hero calls
MP players fold
Flop ($405): AQJ spade draw
V1: bet $150
V2: call $150
Hero: raise All in ~$275
V1: raises all in
V2: calls all in
Hero comments to me, ΓβI did not put either player on a set, or the straight.Γβ
My advice was that this should be all in pre due to SPR, to try and get heads up, along with his image and nature of players described.
Any comments appreciated.
Spoiler
V1: shows AJo, V2: shows K2spades, turned flush wins

Preflop is shove or fold.
Once you're in the flop its a cooler
Preflop is 25bb effective. You have AQhh, face a raise to 8bb from a tilted player plus an overcall with what is likely to be a capped range. This is the easiest slam dunk shove, calling is bad...I guess folding would have been worse so there's that.
Flop plays itself, $705 in, top two, we have $275 behind OK rip it in.
Agree
Squeeze shove pre
Flush draw likely folds as thereβs a certain amount of βtoo much respectβ for all-in bets.
Youβre the short stack, get it in now.
This could change with reads
Got a lot of info on heroβs image, but nothing on villains. Facing a nit would change things. If I thought either player was extremely tight, I probably fold pre. But I expect the hands we saw from average players. Youβre ahead often.
As played, waited too long to shove losing all fold-equity & letting a weak draw get there. Poker is funny how CO plays it absolutely terrible and wins the pot.
Thanks all,
I used to play in these games, severely underolled, in this part of the country daily. I eventually gave up and moved to limit (Hero has also played off and on in these games for a long time) even though the donkeys (K2ss) are plentiful, the sprβs and rake made the game ultra high variance and if played correctly an all-in fest.
If he is to continue to play in the game he will have to get comfortable sticking it in pre with this hand way more than anyone would in most games.
you know those guys that put in half their stack preflop trying to hit something and then fold on the flop when they miss? have you ever seen those guys being able to build a big stack? there's a reason for that.
Shove pre hope the initial raiser isolates. You have 27 bigs.

Tell your buddy I said lol
Playing a 40/10/3 game <30 straddles deep doesn't just give you a "fishy image." You ARE the fish.
Tom Dwan in his prime ain't pullin a profit playing this way pre.
Very easy jam pre

Oh trust me I know and agree he is one of many fish, only one player at any given time has 100bbs or more, it is the culture of this area to play super shallow and make the game less about skill in a traditional sense and more gambly. When or if the games ever get deep and the money is evenly distributed these games tend to break because the turn and river plays become much more uncomfortable for these players. He was in for 500, up to 800, down to 300 up to 900 down to 400.
If he called 125 already V2 wouldnΓβt have folded preflop to the two most obvious iso-sqz shoves in history. 375 with 1055 in pot.
This is the easiest preflop shove there is.
Okay, so this is literally a "just asking for a friend" *wink wink* situation, isn't it
Yea, I rarely play NLHE cash so when we discuss hands, I try and get him to see that the shove is not just my opinion, and maybe get him to join 2p2 and improve.
I have posted plenty of my own hand histories in O8, or PLO, if I posted a NLHE it was tourney or long long ago.
