Red Sox fan since I was about ten years old. Pedro being snubbed by two writers who simply believed pitchers cannot be an MVP is a travesty.

And he put up those kind of numbers in the steroid era. In 2000 his ERA was 1.74!

The writers were always douchebags. Pedro was a man among boys! His peers didn't come close to his dominance. And just looking at guys like Williams, Musial, Mays, Aaron etc. not get unanimously voted into HoF is just stupid.

In the AL too.

I know you guys have seen a few pictures from the balcony of my apartment. But here's a few more. I post these because we are expecting 8-10 foot waves over the next couple days. Right now there are only a few surfers today, but I expect quite a few more in the next two days. At my house the surfers need to take their boards down the access points, and there is no beach here, just rocks.

We never get waves like this where I live just over the line from Newport in Middletown, RI.

As a Cubs fan, I always got behind Red Sox in the AL and loved everything about that '04 team, and to be honest, I think I had more fun watching you guys win than the Cubs over a decade later. Can't pinpoint the exact reason. It's probably a combination of factors, but there was something extra magical about them. Pedro was the man, and there was nothing better than watching a Manny golf swing at a ball in the dirt and watch it fly 400 ft.

When I was nine years old, I walked, sometimes with my brother, to a movie theater two miles away. I know this because I saw Lawrence of Arabia there.

I was an only child with a single mom. My birthday is 9/20 and I was a big boxing fan, so after school on 9/28/76 I walked home from school (15-20 min), watched a couple cartoons, GilliganΓ‚’s Island, and The Brady Bunch, then walked another 15-20 minutes down to the Cottonwood Mall to catch the downtown bus.

About a 20 minutes ride, walked a couple blocks to meet my mom after work. She gave me a ticket to the Ali-Norton 3 CCTV & $10 then drove home. About four hours watching boxing with 4000 chain smoking drunks, went outside and she picked me up.

Tuesday night, and I was 11.

I obviously was an Ali fan, but Norton got robbed blind that night. His corner shouldnΓ‚’t have told him he couldnΓ‚’t lose except by KO after the 13th though.

This is a cool story. Free range kid itt.

What did the 4000 chain smoking drunks think of the decision?

I'm proud to say that in my entire life, I've never placed a bet on a harness race or a prize fight.

Narragansett doesn't typically get high waves. Probably around ten feet right now at my house. The few surfers we had this morning have left.

Narragansett is a half hour drive from my house.

By pure definition, the most overlooked & underrated movie OAT.

I saw a Vermeer today, in Buckingham Palace. The reflection in the mirror is not a true reflection.

Duh. There's no mirror there. It's a painting.

Couldn't take pictures but was able to see five Vermeers at the Frick in NYC last month. Three were part of an exhibit, and the other two were three of the Frick what the Frick owns.

That one you saw is beautiful.

i've only seen what the Rijksmuseum and Louve have to offer.
wasn't able to get to Amsterdam for the bix exhibit they had over the past couple of years.

this should be a fun link for Vemeer fans

is that a harpsichord or a casket?

It's a virginal.

One of the Vermeers at the Frick was on loan from the Rijks.

Also, Jon Jost's film All the Vermeers in New York is really good.

If true, it marks the first appearance of a virgin in *this* thread.

Love that movie

Love that movie

What's amazing about this forum is that you mention a movie that you think no one has seen (but should), and naturally someone has seen it.

Have had absolutely perfect weather here in Chicagoland the last few days. High 70s/low 80s with perfect sunshine. Took as much advantage as I could by spending time each afternoon laying out on my deck in my favorite chaise lounge while listening to music and reading. Most of the summer until now has been too hot and uncomforable. But this is 100% my happy place. Only possible upgrade woulda been a nice frozen margerita or pina colada πŸ˜€

Am I a sick bastard? I am all excited about the kickoff (in 2 minutes) for the Bears preseason game against KC.

I just can't help myself.
