Puking at the table

Puking at the table

This is stupid and very random, but I have a family member who due to health reasons and various procedures sometimes has trouble keeping food down. She is an older woman and loves to pass the time by playing some cards. God forbid what would happen to her if she were to have an accident and would throw up at the poker table/on the poker table?

Besides the immense feeling of guilt, shame, and embarrassement would she be facing any sort of trouble from the poker room/casino.

I would suggest she at least carry something like an air sick bad and keep it immediately handy.

But assuming this is medical and no intent or control, I don’t expect any punishment from casino, sp first time. Now if it became regular and she could not develop some way to manage, they eventually disinvite her but nothing worse.

It won't be the first time in the history of poker that someone threw up. Agree with taking steps to avoid spreading it all over the place. As long as it is once a long while issue, shouldn't be a problem.

If she has a bag ready to go and doesn't get it on anything, it should be fine. Poker rooms are accustomed to dealing with older players and those with medical issues.

Getting it on the table or other players would be a problem, possibly requiring the entire table moved and a cleaning crew coming in.

How well liked she is in the room plays a part in the reaction, too. Be nice to the employees and be at least an average tipper.

Agree with carrying a bag -- and it sounds as if she should keep it in her lap. I can't imagine the casino would care too much if she did everything she could to keep if off the table and her opponents. I'd recommend carrying wipes, too, to let other players know she was trying to stay "clean."

When I lived in Korea, I got very sick and for months I had to carry a "vomit" bag (more than one) always. I'd be hanging out with friends, etc., and then boom, I knew I was going to be sick. I'd just run around the corner or anywhere out of sight, get sick in the bag, and then I was fine. Lasted almost a year -- went from happening once a day to once a month.

My wife has/had (hopefully) issues like this. I suggest picking up some of these:

Spitting on the sidewalk is a $10 fine. Vomiting is free, or at least it is included in your resort fee.

A poker table is quite modular, and though it might cost some money and time, any individual piece of it could be removed and replaced. The shuffle machine is leased/rented and the casino likely has extras on hand in the poker room, same as the electronics at the table. There's a bunch of staples you'd have to remove from the wood base of the table to remove the felt but this is a familiar procedure for casino personnel. The tray is screwed into the table but is made of metal and could be aggressively washed after removal. There are probably steps in place to be able to get a newly cut/fabricated wooden board that everything on the poker table sits on. I'm not too familiar with the legs and base of the table. The padding on the edge of the table is, in my opinion, probably the hardest part of the table to replace.

I bet there is a Shufflemaster deep cleaner person, and all the wood, felt etc. goes in a landfill.

LOL most rooms aren't changing all that stuff out. They're cleaning as much as they can off the surface, letting it dry, then going back to using the table with the stain on it. The felt will get changed at the next scheduled time.

Shuffle machines and bravo units are easy to swap out.

What would happen if the puker was not an elderly woman, but a guy who may have been drinking beers and such?

Ah, we get to the real question 😉 LOL. Probably kicked out -- as he should be. If you can't handle your alcohol...

Almost certainly will be kicked out. If they are a PITA, they might get a cleaning bill to pay before they can come back.

How about she does not eat just before or while playing poker?

Reading the opening post, I immediately thought of all the pictures of public cardrooms I see where the owners have opted for cream-coloured felt.

Looks great on opening night but is then immediately hostage to every stain -- great or small -- known to man.

This lady would teach 'em...
