NL5 - 6max. Severe problems with AK - QQ - JJ

NL5 - 6max. Severe problems with AK - QQ - JJ

Hey guys.

Im playing NL5 6max very regularly and it turns out im loosing with AK - QQ and JJ.

All ive learned is to play theese hands agressively preflop and stick it in against most villains.

But with AK im always up against KK+ and im starting to think preflop shoving AK and QQ is -EV at theese low stakes.
scared money dont move in with worse and the fish is ofcourse a different ballgame.

But how should i go about them. It hurts to 3bet fold AK against a shove same with QQ.

What's the sample size you based your statement of losing with premiums on?

136000 hands give or take

CO opens, BTN 3bets : this is the widest 3bet range possible, BTN is supposed to 3bet A9 suited or KQ offsuit always. You have a very standard 4bet with AK in the small blind, unless BTN is a very very tight player. If CO shoves, there is a case for folding as their range will be very tight (they invested only 3bb so far, the action behind them is hot). This is a theory call but in practice very borderline. If BTN shoves you have a mandatory call.
Your preflop call is terrible, most of the profit of AK comes from making them fold + you guarantee yourself you will play a big pot OOP vs 2 opponents, suffering big reverse implied odds on A high or K high board (if you get action you might be beat and if they can't beat top pair they won't put a lot of money into the pot)

136000 hands give or take

I assume that’s 136000 hands total, not 136000 hands where you had AK, QQ or JJ. Unless there is some wildly improbable dealing that would be a bit over 1600 cases for AK and around 600 give or take for each of QQ and JJ. There definitely could be some variance at play, but you probably are misplaying if you are actually losing with these. With proper play your expected win rate is pretty high and it’s unlikely that variance would cause you to actually be losing

Never check on a flop like that
