The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

I have no idea what you are talking about.

https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/285/p...

Weird, you never got so flipping mad that time.

lol my man if you have some tiny posts-per-page setting then linking to a page number doesn't help anyone who has proper settings. Learn to quote ffs.

So one sec, this huge win you are angling for is that not once but TWICE you've been totally and utterly confused by what "**** danielle smith" means and accused me of fantasizing about sexual assault? Buddy, that is just going to make you look like a complete idiot.

Post #14998. I know how to quote just can't be bothered. Have you learned how to post X links yet?

Since you never got so flipping angry last time i figured it was probably true.

Is the reason you aren't quoting it because you are worried about requoting something that just got deleted? Like great job, you said something really really really stupid TWICE.

I would have been utterly embarrassed to have said something so outrageous, but for some reason you want to bring it up again as some weird attempt to win a forum point? Next time, I'd try that by quoting your months-old post where you were not ranting like a deranged lunatic.

Nope.

So you did all the work to find it once to link it (badly), then all the work to figure out the exact post number, but you just coincidentally won't quote the absolutely ridiculous, outrageous, stupid thing you said (that was also coincidentally just deleted for you repeating it) because that and only that is too much effort?

I understand that "**** smith" is a really confusing expression for you, but it shouldn't send you into this much of a months long tailspin!

You just called me Maga which IÂ’m not am I insulted no I donÂ’t really care
Shifty and I canÂ’t speak for him but myself get tired of Ukes implied or back handed comments that were racist , maga or anti trans

I never saw natediggity pipe in than

I personally believe Uke thinks the worlds a better place without Kirk

I have defended you in the past in this thread when you were being called racist (January 2025).

by uke_master

I don't know what "anti trans" means, that isn't a term I use. I certainly disagree with a lot of how you approach trans issues, but I don't think I've ever called you "transphobic" specifically, I think you have some general kindness in your heart that is big enough to include trans people at a personal level, you just have a lot of bad political opinions about it and often ge

I have had time to reflect on what I posted and even though I may have thought you felt that way it was wrong to state that publicly here .

So for that I apologize and if you think I need a 7 day timeout for my comment I’ll ask Crossnerd to invoke the ban

Again my apologies it was inappropriate

Fair enough😀

your the ying to his yang

I see folks are losing their jobs for celebrating Kirk’s death . A few are at the teaching positions here in Canada or being suspended

My sister a retired teacher said it well the best teachers are the ones were the students do not know their teachers political beliefs

A lot of teachers and profs being and getting fired.

It’s sad that our universities are full of these woke ideology professors. I am not sure if this kid attended university

Are they “full” of such things? I suspect the mode number of professors fired for celebrating Charlie Kirk’s assassination at any given American university is zero. Of course any that are will be massively elevated by the right wing as proof that universities are “full” of such people. As a university professor at three universities in two countries, I’d suggest the overwhelming majority of professors are just normal, slightly boring, academics.

I don't doubt that, but there's been a bunch of studies showing university profs are left-wing, upwards of 60% while only 15% conservative. There have been nurses and Dr's also fired which is disturbing, but I would bet University/Teachers have the highest number of fires right now out of any profession over it.

Ok. I mean I'm also a left wing professor so I guess I'm in that 60%. So what? It has almost nothing to do with my teaching or research. I don't even know the political affiliation of most of my colleagues outside of my closer friends. As long as most of that 60% are the normal, slightly boring kind, I don't much see why being left wing or right wing matters. Of course the right which is making a big culture war issue out of this will try to paint this picture generated from probably a fairly fringe minority in like gender studies professors at ****ing oberin college or some **** like that. But mostly it's just a banal non-issue imo.

From my recollection you’re a math professor so I would assume none of your political beliefs come up in the classroom . I think the problem lies in other avenues of education like social studies and political science
Reality is social media has big impact as well on our youth

Charlie Kirk had a huge impact on the youth vote

I assume most humanities professors are also kinda normal, kinda boring folks who even when teaching topics that happen to have current political narratives do it in a respectful, inclusive way and not LET"S CHEER CHARLIE KIRKS MURDER!!!! Basically in a nation as large as the US, it is probably the case that the right wing hate-o-sphere is capable of generating a set of examples of that crazed extreme, but that extreme should not be considered in any way representative.

I agree social media has a big impact. I would estimate it to be over a 100x impact as large as any political bias from university professors. Like yes, Charlie Kirk's social impact - rightly or wrongly - was larger than almost every professor with various exceptions like jordan peterson or noam chomsky etc who entered the larger political zeitgeist. This is part of why I don't think this whole "let's denigrate university professors" bit the right likes so much doesn't make much sense.

Not this again this was talked about 6 months ago im out
The one thing and probably only thing I knew about charlie kirk for was him shitting on university as a scam. Hard agree think he wrote a book on it and a little bit of that is certainly the far left. If only he was not a religious idiot I might have liked him

Why do you "hard agree" that "university is a scam"? Like sure it isn't immune to criticism - and I definitely don't think it is for everyone - but a scam? Really?

I teach math. Math is useful in so many places in our society. If you want a job that uses lots of math, then getting a math degree at university seems like anything but a scam really.

Well a more accurate answer is "most college is a scam" Its is good for the highest tier jobs/minds. doctors lawyers physicists etc

As for learning math well it used to be more useful then it is now. I can just ask the ai on my phone for the answer and in 3 years it won't make mistakes. The math department is entering scam territory very quickly my friend. Raw data like math is the thing a.i will take over first. Anyway no point getting into it with a person who teach's for a living you can't be convinced. I make a living from math and I didn't waste 4 years of my life learning it and going into debt. I don't see a huge use in the modern world for a math skill above the 9th grade for 99% of the population

It's not even AI. 99% of people that use math everyday in their job do not need a math degree. Excel has been doing the required math for people at their jobs for decades.

While I agree that AI is becoming excellent at many aspects of math and follow these developments fairly closely, I take more of a view that AI can be used to massively leverage your skills, and that people who can think and reason and problem solve in STEM fields with technical content will be able to leverage it even more so.

Interesting! What do you do if you don't mind me asking?

I agree that most people don't need, say, calculus. But then I don't think that more than 1% of the population should be getting a math degree - I'm not sure how this makes those that do a scam. In much the same way you said it is good for the "mind" careers like physicists, wouldn't the same be true for mathematicians?

I also don't think one should get a math degree if you're planning on on doing a job that only requires spreadsheet arithmetic which is most jobs.

Right, which is what Charlie Kirks college is a scam debate topic was about. He wasn't saying everyone who gets a degree is being scammed, it was that the the message kids are told that if you want to be successful you have to get a college degree even if it means going into massive debt.
