I doubt they would have thought it necessary to fake the texts in order to assign blame in the way you describe. The right wing derposphere was happy enough to do that without the texts.

I think it would allow the idea that LGBT people cause mass shootings to go from a mostly online derposphere to a more mainstream audience, aka the types of people who watch network news but aren't completely entranced in MAGATland. The mainstream media has been trying as hard as possible to mention the roommate was trans at every chance they get. It's almost comical. Someone watching the press conference and taking the conversation at face value could easily start to believe the trans panic.

This is so when the genocide starts, the public will have even less empathy for LGBT people, and will struggle with the optics of helping the people behind "so many shootings like Charlie Kirk's".

Maybe I think there should be actual proof before someone is labelled a racist. Not just that they are on the right and a couple of our of context quotes from a person that openly debated a wide range topics and policies.

I think they're more unframing the roommate for cooperation. But maybe not just with the shooting. They've said lots and lots and lots of radicalization took place and they have evidence. The FBI has mentioned a broader probe. So maybe they need the roommate to testify against some group, movement, organization or whatever.
