A few years ago, I went through a mental exercise to try and guess the dynamics of how collapse will occur.

We need to differentiate between the chronic factors associated with ecological collapse and the event factors. Chronic factors include things like warming, sea level rise, changes in wind and ocean circulation, fresh water, soil depletion and inflation in building costs while event factors are things like heat waves, hurricanes, floods and wildfires.

For me, the canary in the coal mine is Florida real estate.

The melting of ice, thermal expansion of a warming ocean and the slowing of the overturning circulation have resulted in many SE US coastal locations have sea levels risen by ~ 6" in the last 15 years.

This exacerbates the damage of events like hurricanes which are becoming increasingly powerful as a result of the fuel provided by a warmer ocean.

We are seeing the withdrawal of capital by blue chip property insurers from the Florida insurance market as losses from hurricanes mount.

At some point, the lack of insurability will result in the collapse of the mortgage market and real estate values in vulnerable locations will plummet. This is already happening in SW Florida.

Property taxes on real estate are the lifeblood of municipal finances. When the real estate market crashes, so goes the ability to finance municipal services and the Florida municipal bond market will crash. The ability to raise funds will disappear at the same time that the costs of mitigating sea level rise and storm damage go up.

So .... i think we can look forward to the bankruptcy of Florida in ~ a decade and a question of how a capitalist society will deal with a failed state. The outmigration from Florida has begun and the resident Boomer retiree population will die off in the coming decade or two.

We're getting close to the wheels falling off.

On the other side of the country, they're dealing with wildfires and the lack of snowfall to feed the Colorado River Basin. I think we have more time there.

At the moment, there is a growing consumer credit crisis in the US and signs of a recession.

Basic math ? LOL. That's all advanced calculus which no one here grasps. I think the case of Neptune's star Triton confirms the default of a circular orbit. Triton's unusual dynamics result in a planet with virtually zero orbital kinetic energy. That's why the orbit is a virtually perfect circle with eccentricity value of 0.00007. Venus is also very close to a perfectly circula

I guess everyone here is wrong and you are right.
Carry on good sir!

That's a Faustian Bargain ..... we would just have to live with the lung diseases associated with breathing in sulfur dioxide.

The best solution is to simply use less energy.

What's better ? A lower quality of life or no life at all ?

man life expectancy grew monstrously with SO2 being released regularly by ship fuel so it's not like you have to bargain "your life" for money.

Money *IS LIFE* to begin with, richer people live longer, so let just us make money and basically get the **** out of our lives

I agree with you Lucifer ..... you are accurate about HISTORY.

I am not here to debate history .... I am here to talk about the FUTURE.

Cell division (mitosis) is a wonderful thing. It gives us a supply of fresh cells to function. But cancerous cell division is not a good thing.

Do you not understand that some phenomena can transition over time from healthy to unhealthy ?

"Making money" is not a sustainable way of life if the money becomes worthless as it did in Germany during the 1930's. If the system collapses, then all money is are characters on a screen or a piece of paper. A $ symbol, a bunch of digits with commas and a period is not edible. It's all an illusion.

Everything that is real comes from the Earth. The wires that connect us are mined from the Earth. The wood and concrete and glass of our houses comes from the Earth. Our food and the weather that allows it to be grown is all part of the Earth.

Human intelligence is all about reconfiguration of Earth's resources in an effort to enhance our survival.

But we're simply at a stage where we can't continue to allow selfish interests like yours to continue to override the collective well being.

We're at the stage where a historically benefical behavior is morphing into something deadly.

!

Took you enough time .... but you finally got it.

I'm curious Lucifer .... why do you want money ?

What is it that you want to buy with that money ?

Perhaps we can come up with an arrangement that gets you what you want without having money as a medium to get it ?

Freedom for work for me and my heirs potentially in perpetuity.

But while living waaaaay above average lol (like i do today). So servants , a driver (or being able to use a taxi every time with a complete disregard for the costs, which is the same), living in monumental city centers of core european towns in centuries old palaces, eating good stuff all the time (prime beef, good wines and so on). A life that is *impossible* to scale to the whole of humanity definitionally. So in a world without money i am ****ed.

Ofc my kids have to go to schools where normal people can't go and the like as well. Inequality is essential for my life as a feature not a bug. I need people willing to clean my house for 10 eur/hour, dry clean my clothes cheaply enough and everything else.

Imagine a Londoner with top5% income at the end of the 19th century to have a clear picture as an american.

Or trying to shape this for an american, i don't know, maybe a new yorker living with 350-400k of income and a fully paid good flat in manhattan perhaps? ofc where i live it costs 1/3 or less to achieve the same. I mean my wife needs to be able to book babysitters like the money really didn't matter because it doesn't.

Now ABOVE THAT, i need (or i try to) earn enough to guarantee the same quality of life for my children *in perpetuity* meaning accumulating enough they can live like that with real returns on assets.

Because not having to work is the goal, i am not american, work is not something that defines me at all. Work is a chore you try to avoid and remove from my life if possible. Otium like noble intellectuals is the actual goal. Which is somewhat achievable for me if i restrict my needs a bit but certainly i can't guarantee in perpetuity to my heirs and their heirs and so on.

And so money is to build what you guys call "generational wealth" in an attempt to achieve *REAL FREEDOM* : which is the freedom for work forever for my bloodline, having other people working for you to fulfill all your needs in perpetuity.

That's the goal in life

by Luciom

Inequality is essential for my life as a feature not a bug.

So you basically want to be a lord and consume a lot.

I'm curious .... some people have a need to be useful. In order to feel good about themselves, they feel a need to add value to the world.

I understand your saying that you want to be free of the need to work. But is there some work that you would choose to do if you had complete freedom ? Do you want to do anything more than simply be a consumer ?

Basic math ? LOL. That's all advanced calculus which no one here grasps.

It's basic undergrad level math/physics, usually taught to first or second year students.

I think the case of Neptune's star Triton confirms the default of a circular orbit.

You asked for the math. The video shows it. It's very straightforward that Newton's Law of universal gravitation lead to elliptical orbits. Not much I can do if you don't want to learn.

The math in that video is really highschool level (in a lot of countries and for a lot of students in the US too)

It honestly would be fair game as an exam question for a first year calculus class even for someone without prior knowledge of physics.

I'm curious Lucifer .... why do you want money ?

What is it that you want to buy with that money ?

I'd prefer to have to help keep some independence from others having the ability to choose how my life plays out.

You really might be the most tyrannically minded Indvidual that I have ever met

You've mentioned multiple times that the time to negotiate was over but then you sweet talk yourself by saying that maybe we can work something out on how someone else lives?

But we're simply at a stage where we can't continue to allow selfish interests like yours to continue to override the collective well being.

You sound like a trusting guy.

The issue is you're wrong on the facts so there's nothing to even try for you to teach.

Nut nut, if i mind my Ps and Qs whats the arrangement?

During the last Ice Age, only a million or so humans scraped by as hunter-gatherers. With today’s tech, even under that climate AI is telling me that Earth could support hundreds of millions. What sort of sustaining capability are you expecting?

How do you go from ''unusual'' to ''confirms the default''?

by weeeez

How do you go from ''unusual'' to ''confirms the default''?

Please explain how a perfectly circular orbit occurs .....

What force is missing in order to make that happen ?

you don't have the brain capacity to understand the answer to that

About 75,000 years ago, humans were reduced to a few thousand breeding pairs. A lot less than a million.

Actually, there isn't really a problem supporting 10 billion people today if we only do what we need to do.

It's not so much the number of people as the per capita intensity of our environmental footprint. It's the luxuries that add up.

The top 10% of the global economic demographic is responsible for 50% of the emissions.

OK .... go ahead and explain the equations in the video ....

that's false. you are confusing "human beings in Europe" with "**** sapiens sapiens worldwide".

Well ... if someone is explaining to me that an elliptical orbit is the default and a circular orbit exists in nature ..... then perhaps someone can explain why there is an exception ?

Triton's orbit around Neptune is effectively a perfect circle.

Why ?

Some force that is present almost everywhere else is missing in that scenario. What is it ?

It's not critical that I understand it .... it's critical that all the people who tell me that orbits are "naturally" elliptical can explain it to themselves.

we told you 1000+ times, it's about starting conditions.

basically you need the satellite to have almost no individual momentum when it gets caught up in the orbit (I am simplifying).

and that needs to happen at the proper distance given the relationship between masses of the two items.

keep in mind the circle is just a particular form of ellipsis

Let's see what the morons who work at NASA have to say .....

Eccentricity – Earth’s annual pilgrimage around the Sun isn’t perfectly circular, but it’s pretty close. Over time, the pull of gravity from our solar system’s two largest gas giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn, causes the shape of Earth’s orbit to vary from nearly circular to slightly elliptical. Eccentricity measures how much the shape of Earth’s orbit departs from a perfect circle. These variations affect the distance between Earth and the Sun.

Maybe you mf's should go tell the people at NASA that they don't know what they're talking about !!! Because of course .... some idiots who post on a poker forum are smarter than the people who work at NASA when it comes to orbital dynamics !!!

Is there a term which combines gaslighting and trolling .... cuz that's what you morons are up to.
