Aside from this being a list of all out trans athletes ever, not just current ones, the majority of the people listed are trans men, who I don't think anyone has ever complained about in terms of fairness of competition.

Conservative politicians all over the US are deliberately framing their opposition to trans athletes as a matter of “protecting women’s rights”. These are the SAME people who routinely oppose actual women’s rights in other critical areas.
You cannot say you gaf about women’s rights and then push for abortion bans, defund reproductive health care, vote against equal pay legislation, resist policies on paid parental leave and childcare support, the list goes on and on.
When all your policies and rhetoric outside the trans issue are hostile toward women’s rights, it’s trivially easy to recognize that men like you aren’t defending women; you’re weaponizing us. You’re happy to use the idea of women’s rights as a rhetorical mask for your anti-trans bigotry. You attempt to appropriate the language and use it as a smokescreen for your true ideals, which are control and power over others, especially women and trans people.

I think "you can't define 'competitive sport' to an arbitrary degree of precision" is an even worse argument, but more to the point, it's useful to point out how deranged the modern conservative movement has become that they've stoked a panic over nine trans kids out of 500,000 NCAA athletes.
There was a lot of discussion here about Thomas two years ago or whenever it was in the news, and I don't remember a single person defending the sharing the women's changing room. I'm sure there are some on the left who defend it, but it's a small minority position.
The only reason we have men in women's sports is because of the left and their "activism". We all know the tactics of smearing and canceling anyone that gets in the way. This was never scientific, popular, or consensus. Just radical leftism rammed in to everyone's life.
This isn't even a fraction of the abomination when you look at what they're doing to children with "gender affirming care". Again a project invented and enforced by the insane left. It's slowly being exposed and getting meaningful push back but in the meantime time it's basically a grooming machine to sterilize and mutilate confused kids. Just yesterday I was at the clinic with the Mrs for a sinus infection. They had a big gender bread person poster which is also taught in school. Basically targets kids to teach them gender ideology which the adults here on 2p2 made a fool of themselves trying to defend

Yes you can though. It's actually pretty simple. The conservatives have different definition of when life begins and when they consider something to be a human baby. If you think it's ok to kill babies because they're inconvenient ( the most common reason) then you are sick.

In professional sports it goes back to 1977 and the NY Supreme Court ruling that Renee Richards was allowed to compete in the US Open as a woman. The rules that allow trans women to complete as women date back to decades before the culture wars. It's only in recent years that it became a high profile issue, it has been happening for decades.
