Ace-high against my nemesis: bluff or bluff-catch?
1/2 at the Legion hall. Relevant HHs with Villain here and here, but tl;dr he's been a pain in my ass for a year.
Preflop: Villain opens to $12 from the CO. Standard CO open range is pretty wide for a standard Villain, and I assure you he has every bit of it and then some. I have A♦ 7♦ in the big blind and call. $500 effective.
Flop: ($25) 2 3 5 rainbow (one ♦)
I check. Villain bets $20. This is almost certainly a range bet, and I'm not folding with two overs, a wheelshot and a BDFD.
Turn: ($65) 6♦
I check. Villain thinks for a moment and checks behind.
River: ($65) 8♣
I brick everything, but I still have Ace-high, and Villain likely has no piece or he would have fired the turn. Should I bet here or see if he'll try to bluff with, like, KQ or JT?

For a 6x open pre this is a standard fold. I would also fold flop to an 80% bet.
As played we don’t have enough showdown value to check river. I would bet 30-40 like we would with 2 pair or a straight.
Turn is an interesting spot to donk.
+1 on the thought to donk the turn. 4-liner low boards are one type of texture where the preflop caller has the clear edge. If called you have the option to barrel.
As played I would check and see.
I feel like I'm going to get run over that way, though. Granted, losing my blinds means less than it does in fixed-limit, which is where I cut my teeth, but by my accounting I'm better than 50/50 against his range preflop:

The flop turns against me a little, but I'm still getting favorable odds:

+1 on the turn donk though.
my WR went up once i stopped defending my big blind with non-premiums to any raise 5x or more (except for pocket pairs for set mining). who cares about $2 or $3 (in 1/3). and i just default to assuming most people open limp their weak hands so even if they raise on the button its a strong hand.
We might have an equity advantage but heads up oop without the betting lead we will underrealize that equity significantly.
This raise size is enormous relative to what the solver expects and should theoretically make his range much stronger. If he doesn’t adjust his range we can crush him with a linear 3b range.
Don’t torch it bro. Ace-high’s already a bluff-catcher. Let villain hang himself with KQ/JT if he wants.

After thinking about this hand more, I think I come down here. I do have A-high, but it's literally the worst possible A-high, because everything from A6-A2 makes either a pair or a straight.
I checked, Villain bet $20 and I called. He had A8o FTW.

This hand is ripe for a huge check raise repping the straight that he almost never has.
when people check back the turn, c/r the river with bluff and value.

do this until they adjust. they probably wont.
