Here I'll explain some basic feedback loops. As most people learn in school, but apparently you didn't, ice has a higher albedo than ocean does. So you get something called ice-albedo feedback where if you have less ice, then this keeps the planet even warmer because more of the sun's energy is absorbed. Additionally, that melted ice contributes to rising sea levels, changed ocean currents, weather patterns, etc etc. That these are happening is just objective reality, it's something we are going to have to live with. We can only influence the degree.

Oh joy! My genuine naive student who is getting to learn basic climate science, what a delight! Ok let's keep going, yes ice-albedo feedback has been a part of this earth as long as ice has been. Did you know about a really cool hypothesis called the snowball earth hypothesis that some 650 million years ago there was geological evidence of equatorial glaciation at sea level, and because of the resulting high global albedo the earth was trapped in a snowball earth! I teach a fun mathematical model - oh I know the woke professor teaching woke math - to help model this temperature dependence on albedo, lots of fun.

At present, the surface area of Swiss glaciers covers 755 square kilometers—a decline of 30% over the past 25 years.
