That’s a privilege the people who fought for gay rights never had. The trans community is in that same position today; they're extremely vulnerable and don’t have the luxury of not talking to straight people. Straight people don’t have to agree with everything you say, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need to hear it. Besides you pick too many fights not to be a fighter. The enemy can only win if you stop fighting.

Straight guys includes straight trans men and straight black guys. So you’re never talking to a straight black guy ever again?

Let’s just skip straight to the hyperspecific bigotry against cis straight white guys so we can expose that the left protects all groups except that one.

It’s the right that needs to get woke on this. If the whitopia of the ’50s saw today’s militarized police, the warrantless raids, their grandmothers getting body-slammed over traffic tickets... they’d be appalled. Actually appalled is kind of light. I don’t want to say what my great-grandfather would have done but I bet a jury of his peers would have acquitted him.

It’s really annoying that some people are still pretending that “defund the police” means getting rid of police altogether.

As Bernie said, defund the police or abolishing prisons is just the wrong message. Often we need even more funding for them.

It comes from a fundamental misunderstanding of what the problems really are. For instance, police don’t have enough funding so they’re forced to sit there writing unnecessary tickets to meet a quota. Does defunding the police help in that case?

Or someone gets arrested for drug possession. Is it that we need to release them without a plan, or do they need to be put on some kind of track to get help that might involve some supervision?

I live in a country where people are being arrested and thrown in prison for tweets. People also visit people for "non-crime hate incidents". A famous comedian was recently arrested by 5 armed police officers when arriving at Heathrow airport for a tweet. They are also arresting people for silently holding placards. So yes, there is plenty wrong with the police where I live.

Giving them less money will not resolve these or any other issues or poor policing, and how on earth will allowing rapists and murders to wander the streets "Improve socio-economic conditions"?

Tweets whose intention was to cause the death by incineration of people in their houses. You keep citing this as if it was a "Yah boo sucks to you" tweet but in fact she was exhorting people to burn others to death during a riot where people were trying to do just that.

There's plenty wrong with the police including misapplication of the law, but that wasn't a good example. Some of the rapists and murders were serving police officers, and it remains a highly toxic culture as evidenced by the undercover reporter in Charing X police station.

Blaming mass shootings on marijuana is outstanding stuff.

Their claim is the other way around: Improve socio-economic conditions and the crime rate will fall and we won't need as many police or prisons. I don't think it's the whole truth but considering the socio-economic backgrounds of the people getting arrested and going to prison, there's certainly some truth to it.

Sure. Once minorities get equal opportunities, then whites will have less opportunities. That doesn't mean ipso facto that white people are being discriminated against.
