Haircuts are bad ju-ju. I ran bad for about a year and a half. It finally returned to "normal" this summer. I haven't had a haircut in two years and I'm not about to get one now and bring on another two years of runbad.

Day Three - Wednesday October 8th

All the tournaments are 12pm starts this week but that still allows for a little pool time.

Brunch at Canes. (All for less than the price of a Wynn OJ) [emoji3]

I guess this picture would have been more appropriate for the HORSE tournament yesterday rather than today’s TORSE.

Small field again. Only 54 runners. I don’t get why it’s so quiet? Looking at the numbers from last year’s Fall Classic, all the mixed events had between 80-100 entries, so only 50 yesterday and 54 today is disappointing.

And on top of the fact that it’s a small field. It’s a small but very deadly field. It’s not a good sign when half the field are name players:

And I’m probably missing a few. Despite the tough field I was still in there fighting with 88k on the last break of the night.

After the break I get absolutely killed with bring-ins in Razz and Stud and have to make my stand in 2-7.

Starting with a premium D2 and still drawing 1 to a 7 on the last draw. Villain also draws 1 to a 9. He hits and we don’t. Out in 12th for the most frustrating of all tournament days. Battle all day and fall just short of the money. I’d almost rather be one of the first ones out.

It seems the Wednesday $40 / $80 O.E. game at Wynn is up and running again. I was checking on it during the breaks and it looks a good game. They’re down to 6 handed when I bust so I sit down and join them. It’s still a good game.

I play until the game breaks at 3am. I was up about $1,800 at my high point but drop a bit and have to settle for a +$1,200 win after 5 hours.
Lost a big O8 pot near the end with nut flush, nut low and a gutshot straight draw. Villain somehow manages to win with two pair 9’s and 5’s having called 3-bets in the BB with T952 !

On deck tomorrow: The tournament is $600 Omaha 8, but given the small field sizes I may elect to play cash instead if the game goes and the line-up looks good. That being said the $80 mix didn’t run today and looking iffy for tomorrow at the moment so it might not be an option.

Are you following the HORSE winner's thread? He may know of some games you'd want to get in while you're there. He seems to stay pretty busy, lol, but he also plays a lot lower than you at times.

Day Four - Thursday October 9th

Woke up later today due to the late finish last night. The WhatsApp group for the $80 Mix at Bellagio confirmed what I suspected. No game today, so no decision to make. We’ll play the tournament. As it’s O8 today I’m not too bothered about being there for the start. You can’t really increase your stack that much in the first couple of levels so I go down to get my pool time in.

They open the big pool today to my surprise. First time I’ve seen it open, although they probably only open it later and I don’t see it as I’m usually there first thing and leave early.

I was planning on walking to Wynn but it’s clouded over and is raining so I take a taxi and arrive halfway through level 2.

Omaha 8 normally has the largest field of all the mixed tournaments as it’s the most widely played, but I’m shocked that we finish late reg with only 43 total entries. I’m calling it, Vegas is officially dead.

With the $30k guarantee it means not only are we playing rake free, but the casino is adding $4,200 to the prize pool.

I ended the late reg period with about what I started with, but then increased to about 65k before losing a big pot with set over set and no low possible. My last chips with in with Aces and nut flush draw on the flop but villain hit a two outer on the river to send us to the rail.

So an early bath in the tournament and no cash game to play. What to do with the rest of the evening? The 2nd half of TNF had just started but Wynn doesn’t have live betting so I high-tailed it to Venetian and by the time I arrived the Giants were up 10. Eagles looked off, Giants looked up for it. Go big blue!

I watched the rest of the game in the sportsbook there.

Giants pull off the upset and win by 17. I’m the only one waiting in line to cash a ticket! The sportsbooks are making money hand over fist with these NFL results lately.

Now showing a small profit for the day we reward ourselves with dinner at the bar in Delmonico.

I walk the dinner off on the way back to Excalibur stopping in at the Piano Bar in Harrahs for a nightcap.

On deck tomorrow: If they can only get 43 entries for a $600 O8 how many will there be tomorrow when it’s $1,100?
If the $80 Mix goes I think I’d rather play that, but on the other hand if there is a decent overlay then we might have to jump into the tournament. Will play it by ear.

Shame you won't be out in October as I'm there from Oct 21 to Nov 4 and staying at Orleans so will no doubt play a few of those Kessler tournaments.

Day Five - Friday October 10th

Hotel change time again. This time it’s the Horseshoe for 2 nights with tonight comped. $20 to the front desk girl gets me the early check-in fee waived. Better for her to have it than Caesar.

The $80 Mix is a go today so will start off there and keep an eye on the runners in the $1,100 Omaha 8 tournament at Wynn.
The game is so-so. I play 3 hours winning $1,000 then decide to head to Wynn for the tournament as it’s obvious there’s going to be an overlay.

This is typical of how I’m running in the tournaments this week.

I 3-bet an open with AA27 and get 2 callers.
Flop: 5-5-6
I continue and only the original raiser calls.
Turn: J
We bet again, villain calls.
River: 2
We check, villain bets, we call
Villain has A34x
We go from scooping a big one to getting scooped as villain hits the only card in the deck he can scoop with. [emoji30]

I bust with still about 50 minutes of late reg left and decide to see if I can win a little on blackjack switch to fund another bullet. This hand helps:

I manage to win $500 and decide to fire again. Can’t pass up $13,000 overlay as I’m the 37th and final entrant max late reg but it’s more of the same unfortunately. 2nd bullet bites the dust.

I make my way back to Bellagio but the Mix game was already down so watch the ball game in the sportsbook. I’d put this bet on earlier at Wynn:

So managed to recoup most of the 2 bullets fired in a roundabout way.

Tournaments are funny. Last week in Thunder Valley everything was going right and confidence was high. This week exactly the opposite. In a way I knew how today was going to go but just couldn’t pass up the overlay. The plan now is to play the $80 Mix over the weekend. Need a couple of days off from tournaments.

Yes sorry I’ll miss you. Those Orleans tournaments should be fun though. Looking forward to hearing all about them.

Day Six - Saturday October 11th

The Horseshoe pool is closed for the season but I can use the pool at Paris.

It’s completely in shade at 9am so I go to the edge of the pool deck underneath the Eiffel Tower to lie in the sun.

I can’t stay at the Horseshoe without having Dave’s hot chicken at least once.

I’m in cash game mode having decided to skip the tournament. There’s 11 of us for the $80 Mix today so we draw for two tables; the main game of 6 and a must move of 5.

I draw the must move and it doesn’t look good. The main game looks great, my table, not so much. And on top of that I’m running bad, making 2nd best hands where I have to pay off.

I’m stuck about $6,000 when I finally get into the main game. It’s still good but doesn’t last long enough to get me even. When it breaks I book a -$3,000 loser for the day after 11 hours of play.

At least Xander came through for me on the golf to ease the pain a little.

On deck tomorrow: cash game grind again, hopefully with better results.

well....I guess -6k to -3k is a win of sorts?

Day Seven - Sunday October 12th

The Horseshoe in-room TV sucks. No NFL Network, so I have to go downstairs to watch the NFL London game. I have some small teasers and parlays which all include Denver and they make me sweat, but get the job done in the end.

Then it’s over to Bellagio, bags and all as we checked out of Horseshoe, for an earlier 11am start today for the $80 Mix.

We’ve been playing on the main floor yesterday and today as Fridays rain leaked through the roof in the high limit section and they’re still drying out the carpet and doing clean-up.

Just the one game today and it’s a decent line-up. I hit the front early and managed to stay there, mainly thanks to doing well in both the big bet games.

In PLO I get it in pre for the cap of $1,600 and it’s Aces vs Aces. We agree on two full boards. First board is a chop but I make the nut flush on the 2nd board to get 3/4.

And in Big O I open and then call a 3-bet with A2KJT.

I actually consider folding here as I can’t make a low and villain’s 3-bet range will contain aces a good deal of the time, but villain seems a little on tilt so doesn’t necessarily have to have the Aces here in which case I’m ahead so I decide to call and re-evaluate on the turn.

Villain leads out capping it.
Nice turn card alleviating my concern over him having Aces. I call and go just once.

My heart skips a beat for a second as it’s the only over-card I don’t have but he shows A2 and we’re good.

Got upgraded to Gold today. Look after the floors and they’ll look after you. The floors actually do quite well from our game. We all throw in $5 for them as a tip when we start. Then if they bring you racks of chips it’s customary to tip them a chip. As we play with $20 chips that means a $20 tip. And the floors also take the food orders for the high limit games, not the food runners, so that’s another $20 chip, but they do look after us very well in return.

There wasn’t any late fill players today so the game broke around 6pm. The last round we played was Drawmaha 2-7 and I unfortunately got scooped on back to back hands with a 9 low and 2 pair and an 8 low and 2 pair which is quite hard to do, especially as both hands were heads-up. So that eroded about $1k of my hard earned profits but when I racked up I was still +$2,400 to the good after 6 hours work.

Watched a bit of SNF and the ball game in the sportsbook at Bellagio before crossing the road back to the Horseshoe to collect on some bets I’d placed there. Nothing big today, just small stuff, but came out ahead.

Then I walked to my home for tonight.
