How can you guess penguin when I did n-1 which denies 2nd word on list? We’ve been consistent about this for 5 years now

This is not a normal situation, and even you surely recognize that. But yes, I identified that something was off with the clue and should have pushed for more discussion before anything was bolded.

Roulette, Limousine, Scuba Diver?

Scuba Diver being the make up word for deep. (3 clue so definitely not sub)

Roulette & Limo look good. Scuba fits well for deep, but don't love it for Monaco. Give me a minute to think about alternatives

Monte Carlo is the capital of Monaco and fits with Limousine and Roulette. So I think not that.

Monaco doesn't have multiple cities, it's just the one city that's also the country (like Vatican City). If we didn't have deep as a previous clue, I'd be very strong on capital here

Monaco is not an oil producing nation. It is however on the coast and stuff like scuba diving is available there.

Grand Prix being there is a minor plus for oil but meh.

We had well on our backup list and it's not even on the list. That's my bad eyes misreading web.

So our backup list contained 2 valid words and 1 is ruled out because of n-1. That leaves scuba diver as our only deep word (re;evaluation not withstanding)

It's like a neighbourhood, not a separate city. Like London has a bunch of spots with names that are actually part of London, or Manhattan & the boroughs of New York. Anyway, we're arguing about a word neither of us wants to guess lol

I think I prefer oil to scuba diver because of it's association to rich city states even if not directly to Monaco. But, if you have strong feelings about scuba then I think it's a valid answer and we can bold it

Capital doesn't work at all with deep, imo, so to me it's the second backup on the list in case we're missing something with deep
