10/13-10/16 Semi-live TR: last minute trip to my favorite city
I literally booked a short trip to Vegas a few days ago after syncing up a slow work week with limited kids activities and permission from my better half. I’m flying in late on Monday 10/13 night and flying out on Thursday 10/16 night. I’m staying at Luxor again as I had a good experience there during my summer trip and they offered me discounted rates. My MLife Gold expires at the end of this year, so will enjoy one last trip not paying resort fees.
This one will be a bit different than my previous TRs as I haven’t had a chance to draft out an itinerary or a bunch of goals. Am just going to focus on having fun playing poker for as much of the trip as I can, will eat at some of my favorite spots (Hattie Bs, Moneyline, Pizza Rock, RiRa), will try new places to eat, and will attempt to check out some uniquely Vegas experiences. And I will try to keep the TR as semi-live as possible!
Win all the money!
1st meal of the trip-RiRa’s buffalo wings and a beer. I love wings and maybe it’s regency bias because I’m in Vegas, but these are some of my favorite wings. They do an excellent job with the size and crunchiness of the wings, as well as the sauce.
Going to head over to either Mandalay Bay or MGM for some poker.

Let’s gooooooo!!
Have a fantastic time.
awesome stuff. those wings do indeed look vg
I've never stepped foot in the Luxor - the room looks decent enough. How is the vibe/overall condition and clientele of the resort?
GL, oriole-lion!
Ended up winning about $230 last night and was awake enough to play more, but it seems that Mandalay Bay closes their poker room early every morning. I get it as it doesn’t make fiscal sense for the casino to pay staff if there is only 1 or no tables. But the degen in me wanted to keep playing!
Felt like my play was a bit rusty as I had only played 1 session since early June. The results were definitely more due to luck (hitting some draws) vs great play. I was happy with how I reacted to losing $125 when my Aces got cracked. Am always happy with winning the 1st session in Vegas!
Decided to walk over this morning to the MGM to take the monorail this morning and then check out the Vegas Loop.

Thanks! Those wings are definitely good-if you like wings and are down at that end of the Strip, I would definitely recommend.
Luxor has been good so far and the room is clean & quiet. I stayed in one of those Tower rooms this Summer and had a good experience. I hit up the pool in the Summer and it was decent. Seems to be a lot of folks attending a convention staying there this week.
Not OP, but just want to mention that his pictures are from a Tower Room at Luxor. These rooms are way nicer than their Pyramid Rooms.
(but for some reason they are not available often on my MGM offers)
Agree with you bro that the Tower rooms are nice. The offer that I used was for a Pyramid room, but was luckily upgraded to a Tower room.
Strawberry Julius rungood is PURE
I really like the Mandalay Bay for poker. it is the least intimidating room with a good mix of decent players and newbies with very few sharks. glad you start with a nice winning session.
Wynncore for Strawberry Julius and watermelon juice is awesome. Hope your game is good
Poker was a bit of a grind at Encore. Was into the game for $700. Ended up playing for 6.5 hours and won a whopping $40. I couldn’t get anything going for a while and was down a little over $300 after a couple hours via missed draws and poorly timed aggression. I ordered a 2nd strawberry julius in hopes that it would reverse the losing and it seemed to help. I kept grinding and eventually got up $80, before giving some back. Definitely stayed too long in a so so game, but I wanted to get back into the positive.
I’m now heading over to try Howlin Rays in the Venetian food court.

Dayum, those wings look good. I'm actually better off that I don't have easy access to something like that. I'd be twice as fat if I did.

You did better than me. I won't play 1/3 at Wynncore because that game crushes me. I'll play the tournaments there, even cashed a daily, but the 1/3 always seems to be filled with 2/5 and 5/10 crushers when I play it.
How much were they charging for the wings and a beer?

We've all been there 😀 It can be hard to get out of the seat when you are stuck, while in reality we should make our winning sessions (where we have a good image and sitting deep with others) the longest ones.
Howlin Rays was great-right on par with Hattie B’s, which I love. Only problem was that I ate waaaay too much. I tried to walk it off afterwards, but the food coma could not be defeated.
I sat down at a 1-3 game at Venetian and was not alert and didn’t play well. Ultimately got stacked and lost $300 when I couldn’t get away from top pair top kicker vs a flipped set of 5s.
Thought a change of scenery would be good so headed over to Caesars, where I had a great session in the summer. Unfortunately I made a bad decision and stayed too long in a bad game with limited action. By the time a more action player joined the game, I had been telling myself to get up for a couple rounds, but I didn’t get up. I was punished for my lack of execution and poor table selection as I got stacked and lost $500 when I lost set over set (my 5s to the action player’s Qs).
So on to the next casino! I trudge over to Bellagio in hopes that a change of scenery will bring about a change of fortunes.

Boom
