Leon!! You know I walked through the Wynn last Saturday and thought...wonder if Leon is here and doing a trip report? Turns out I was right!

For your Christmas period visit:

Amazing recovery there.

Out of interest how do you set your bets up at the start at the roll? Do you pretty much press up or collect and press?

99% of the time I bet all the even numbers. 330$ total (75 on 4 and 10, 90 on 6 and 8) at the low point, 550$ at my highest starting point (125/150/150/125). I mini-press until the roll is basically paid for. So using 550$ as an example, first 4 or 10, both 4 and 10 go to 150$. I collect 200$. First 6 or 8 I go to 180 (collect 145$). I'll keep building that way, usually takes about 3 hits on any of the even numbers.

Once I'm paid for, I'm more aggressive- I usually do some version of collect/press on 6 and 8. 4 and 10 I will at least collect what's out there- example 500$ 4, I'll go to 1000$ max (collect 500), much more often go to 750$ (collect 750).

Haha yep. You'll see how Sat turned out soon.

Thanks. Been aware of this, and waiting for them to open.

It's always good to find a fresh TR up from leon. And I laugh at the insanity of trying to survive on about $100 for food per person per day.

Edit: for the payouts if you win $40k on $10 credits it's obviously 2.5 times that for $25 credits. No pay table knowledge necessary.

Yeah, the good news for us is D got 200$/day credit as well. But when you put it like that, it is kind of absurd (166$ per person per day at the Wynn, that's cutting it close lol).

Day 3

Sleep in a little better but not much. The craps recovery helped a lot yesterday and I'm optimistic about today.

I'm holding my own when I pick up dealt quads number 2 of the trip!

Spoiler

I'll take it.

Step up, and hold my own for quite a while.

Dealt quads number 3 and second of the AM!

Spoiler
Show

Again, I'll take it. At least it was kind enough to deal me this after I stepped up to 30 lines.

Eventually, the machine turned and I put back almost 8k, but I'm still up 10k for the AM! I head to breakfast at Jardin. Unfortunately, it's just me and D because wife has to work.

LOL forgot to take pics of the food! I got steak and eggs, as usual, 8/10 as usual.

D and I walk to Walgreen's in Palazzo so he can pick up some stuff.

After we get back, I give the multiline quarter machine a try.

Other than this hit (quad aces twice from holding 1 ace!!!), the session is a loser, I believe 1k?

D and I head to craps. It's mediocre and the best I can say is we killed some time. After that, we head to the room to touch base with wife. She's finally done for the AM and is starving. I'm not really interested in spending more food comp, but she has to eat, and taking a break is probably a much better decision than gambling more... we head to Tableau and check out their brunch menu.

I get the shrimp and grits. 7/10, flavors were pretty good but the spices on the shrimp were almost overpowering. I could see a lot of people being turned off by this dish.

After we eat, D wants to head up for a nap, and wife has a few more work things to do. I decide to grab a quick cigarette and head back to the quarter multiline machine. I am well-aware this will likely be a 1k$ cigarette.

Play for just a few hands and pick up dealt quads number 4!!!!

PREMIUM!!! Second time I've gotten dealt aces this trip!

As always, need a good kicker draw here...

Man. Obviously happy overall, but below expectation on the kicker draw.

Now I step up and play for several more cigarettes.

Really got excited on this one. Looked prettier than it ended up being.

Finally the machine cools off. No doubt about it, today is fantastic! I believe I'm up 25k for the day now! I head upstairs to give everyone the good news. After my nap, D and wife are finally ready for craps. Let's do this.

We decide to play at Wynn and the table is decent for a LONG time. It's not spectacular but we book a solid winner (I believe 2k for me) and wife is now UP 1500 for the trip. She pays back her 1k marker to me. We play basically up until it's time for dinner at FB.

We're eating at Washing Potato again, first time for wife. Again, forgot food pics (sorry!). We got some of the same stuff as last time, some new things. Nothing was as good as the previous time, though. The chive dumplings which were the bomb last time were too thick and not fried enough. That was really disappointing. I'd say it was 6/10 overall, some 5/10 and some 7/10 dishes. Kinda losing interest in FB with each successive mediocre food or gambling experience.

Speaking of gambling, I was unsure if I was going to give FB action this trip or not. With a limited bankroll, it seemed kind of silly. OTOH, I'm 2/3 of the way to re-qualifying for Royal status and it seems wasteful to throw that away as well. I decided at the beginning if I was doing ok by this stage I'd play 5k. Since I'm killing it right now, I decide I'll go up to 7k (but of course, in my mind I'm "due" for a win at FB and no way I lose that much). We all know where this is headed.

D says he'll go in with me for 10% up to 5k. He's winning as well, but when you throw those mediocre craps sessions in there where he has 100% of himself he's not up that much. Plus, he was partnered with me for VP on every day BUT the great Wed night, so he's not up there either. Wife and I play while he goes off to find a craps table. And we proceed to blast off 5k in no time flat. ZERO dealt premium trips. ZERO handpays.

I just CANNOT win at this casino.

Well, this was dumb. I'm on semi-tilt and move to the DSTP machine. As I don't have this option at the Wynn, I want to give it some play. I'm so gunshy from my first stay here where this game raped me for 40-50k over several days that I refuse to start with it, always thinking "I'll get something from the multiline machines here". So instead, I donk off money at multiline first, and then lose more money at DSTP bc I still haven't gotten my DSTP fix. SO DUMB.

ALMOST, ALMOST the magic of DSTP in action. Great multiplier. Random hit. NO KICKER.

That's the only handpay of the session and obv goes back into the machine. I end up losing 8k at FB!!!! D is up almost a grand at craps. Wife is exhausted. It's time to leave. I just cannot win at this casino.

We get dropped off at Encore Tower suites bc... Encore craps. The three of us play for about an hr, and it's garbage. Wife loses 500$ and quits, I actually have to rebuy and we all lose more than intended. I think I lost 4k that session, stuck 12k after dinner and I can feel the first twinges of being upstuck AGAIN.

Still a good day. Tomorrow D's got a free slot tournament on deck. I just have to survive, and as of now I should be fine...

Day 3 result- +15k
Overall- +31k
Dealt quads- 4, 2 premium
Dealt royals- 1
5 digit hits- 2

Day 4 coming soon...

a great day - lots of food too! thanks for the post as ever

Yeah, it's tough unless you are just trying to find the cheapest food possible.
I just got back from vegas a few days ago. One morning I went to the lobby cafe at Vdara, which is an order at counter and get your food place.
Breakfast sandwich, chips, water and an orange juice, $44 lol. I was like excuse me?

I know it's the cool thing to do now, to complain that everything is so expensive and I get that it's Vegas, but man that was crazy.

I ****ing love these updates, gives me FOMO about Vegas generally and I dont even play pit games.

It’s perfectly fine to survive on $100 or even half of that in Vegas but obviously it will be unhealthy. I spend above $100 on a normal day but there are days where I have a coffee and a croissant to go for breakfast ($15-20), a double double at In N out for $10 for lunch and maybe go by the food truck at Park MGM on my way back to the room for $20. Or two slices of pizza at Aria for pretty much the same amount.

But yeah I agree that Vegas prices in general are absolutely insane

I guess I'm lucky because I love fast food, so I get the stuff I can't get at home. If I'm staying longer than a weekend, I have to visit a mexican place at South Point. That's 3 or 4 different places with an average of about 20 bucks.

Day 4

Get up around the usual time, head downstairs. I'm only playing for a bit when BAM! Dealt quads number 5! of the trip.

Spoiler
Show

Not big enough.

Obviously switched to single line at some point, hoping to recreate the magic of the first day. Apparently jacks were hot.

I lose 5k to start the day. We all head to Tableau for breakfast. Totally forgot to take pics, we got a typical breakfast. D's nephew joined us- he's a roadie/part of the sound crew for Earth Wind and Fire who are playing at the Sphere. So we treat him to breakfast as well. After food, we need to head to the Encore b/c D is playing in a freeroll slot tournament here.

I typically hate these things. I've played in several of them- the fields are huge and your chances of hitting anything almost non-existent. They typically come with a drawing at the end as well where one can win up to 10k free credit- great, IF you get picked. Theoretically I should prefer these to the big buy in tournies (these are, after all, a freeroll) but the massive fields and low chance to win turn me off. So I turned down my invite to this, preferring the free credit I received from my host. Back in the day when I could get both an invite and free credit it would have been a no-brainer, but not now.

So we belly up to a craps table and teach D's nephew how to play. On the plus side, it's just the 4 of us. On the minus, the table sucks. None of us can shoot and we're stuck another 2k pretty fast. D's tourney rounds are up so we take a pause.

Nothing fun here- D lets his nephew play a round, and all rounds are mediocre except D's last which is pretty darn good. He comes in 3rd that round, which is good for... 84 out of 88 overall??! Told you these things were basically impossible to win. What a let down, but expected.

So we head back to the craps table- D's nephew has to leave, we say our goodbyes and proceed to lose another 2k. Looks like nothing has changed here. Bleh. We head back to Wynn and grab some food from the VIP lounge. We know D has to be back at Encore for the drawing at 5pm, and we've got dinner at 6666 at 7:30pm. I hit the machines and lose another 5k, zero jackpots.

So let's recap. I'm stuck 14k on the day so far. Up 17k total, but I want to go home with at least 10k. Still have all of today and tomorrow AM to account for... yep, I'm officially upstuck again. ARGH!!!!

We try and slow it down and head back to the room. After we rest up for a bit, we decide to walk to the area with all the new stores and grab a slice of apple pie from Urth Caffe. Apple pie is my wife's absolute favorite and we've gotten whole pies from here before.

So once we get to the cafe, for some inexplicable reason my wife decides to try their pumpkin pie instead; maybe it's the season. Meanwhile, I had a hankering for a neapolitan so I grab that, and I convince D to get something as well. We're trying to save food comp, but we're not gambling so hey! We're saving money. I confirm with the cafe that we can do a room charge. D puts it on his room since he's got some comp left over.

Sneak preview- they didn't comp the charge! Urth caffe is one of those independent businesses that the Wynn won't comp. This has actually happened to us before, clearly I remembered to check bc I asked about the room charge. It turns out I asked the wrong question- I should have asked, "will this be comped by the Wynn?". Argh. So we ended up having to pay out of pocket for...

--- the most mediocre desserts I've had in a long time. Everything was 3/10 at best. Lacking flavor, poor texture, etc. It was just eating sugar for no reason. We all had a couple of bites total and wasted the admittedly large portions. What a waste of money.

That done, it's time to walk back to the Encore. I'm now committed to no more VP this trip. I can make it if I just play craps, but not if VP is bad. D goes to the drawing while wife and I hold the fort down at the tables. Surprise surprise, D gets nothing. Now we've got some time to kill until dinner. The craps session was never good and we're down another 2k. We head back to Wynn for dinner at 6666.

Had a better experience here than last time. Steak and appetizers were good. The short rib was so-so, decent but too much given all the other things we ordered. Dessert was completely unnecessary, I didn't want it but wife wanted to try it. The presentation/concept was fun, the dessert itself was wholly unremarkable. 7/10 overall.

Rest of trip coming soon...

tbh, the food presentation looks great!

Even for the Wynn, those 666 prices are diabolical..☠️☠️☠️

Still love Vegas but I sure tire of seeing these prices go up every year for the same 1995 hotel restaurant menus. Not a single “nice” Vegas restaurant would stay in business for longer than 2 months in NY/SF/LA

It is what it is I suppose, but just wish they would actually try

yeah that $52 burger caught my eye.

with my Aussie hat on, we get to $66ish after tax/tip and then to $100 when we translate to kangaroo $$ and it blows my mind

also, $19 for a side of fries or mashed potatoes

I am very happy Leon didn't share a pic of the wines by the glass list or I would have got very sad

You do know many if not most of the nice restaurants on the strip are from NY or LA right? This is a wild comment…

For a higher end restaurant / location those cocktail prices are actually pretty normal. I'm LA based, so I guess it also depends where you're coming from. Entree prices are a bit pumped, but you're always paying a premium at Wynn and that's not a new thing.

And CHI and DC.

I don't generally complain about prices, especially at the Wynn, but they are high. However, I snap order the short rib lasagna.

When you say “from” do you actually mean knockoff sister restaurants? Because then yep, quite a few of them there. Not too many chefs are gonna say no to 25k/mo for putting a name on the door

Shouldn’t have said “not a single”, obv places like Robuchon are good

don’t wanna derail a great thread, GL Leon

I will say this about prices- IMO, the prices in Vegas are the MOST ridiculous when you think of basic items and food. Less so for fine dining.

Wynn obv is pricey compared to most other places in Vegas but you (sort of) get what you pay for. And while their fine dining prices are slightly higher than what I'd be willing to pay at a comparable nice non-Vegas restaurant, it's not much different as others have noted. Where they really get people is with the basic stuff- stuff from the cafe, sundry store, retail bottles of water, etc. If you try and low roll at the Wynn they will DESTROY you.

More generally, I find this to be the case with all of Vegas. Everything is expensive. Expensive stuff is slightly more expensive (barring stupid stuff like the 1000$ steak at FB, etc). Stuff that's CHEAP in other places (basic burger at a sit down place) is ridiculous. So unless you're willing to eat at fast food chains where the price is basically fixed, shop at Walgreens etc Vegas really gets you if you're trying to save money BUT not willing to do those things. I try never to eat fast food as a rule so I'm clearly not doing that, and eating out well costs a lot of money in most metropolitan areas.

That short rib lasagna was the nuts. It made the entree short rib we got totally unnecessary (and inferior).

Brisket lasagna. My bad, but I still order it.

Splitting hairs here -- to me it's as much a knockoff as the originals. It's not like celeb chefs are usually in the kitchen at any of their places -- the chef/company has creative/menu control, and the casino property staffs if it's a licensing deal (although more often the casino property doesnt license - they have a lease deal with the chefco because the property is trying to beat union labor costs). But anyway when I replied i was thinking about Gjelina, Cote, Momofuku, Delmonico/Emeril's, Carbone, ...

Papi Steak was great (did not order the 1k steak) but super expensive. But Komodo has been super solid across several visits if you havent partaken (and if you havent sworn off that DSTP 😀)

Huh. I despised Papi steak bc of the volume/nightclub atmosphere. Literally the worst meal I've had in a while. To be fair, the food itself was fine.
