Here's a bet I can win: His won't be worse than mine.
Long story short: after being relentlessly pestered to pick one far sooner than necessary I picked one so bad that I didn't think anyone would use it. They surprised me.
Oh boy DooDoo, you might've wanted to keep that one under wraps.
Why? I'm proud of it. Long version in spoiler.
Spoiler
Daughter found out she was pregnant after several years of determined trying, IVF, etc. Had happened a couple times previously but didn't last long. This one seemed different, but you never know. My wife and I were out of town at a bar killing time waiting for a concert to begin. My wife was very excited about the pregnancy and began asking me what my grandparent name was going to be. I didn't even realize there was a term for it or that people chose them in advance. I thought they were just names that spontaneously happened when a kid babbled something instead of grandma or grandpa.
I thought it was far too early to start planning for something that could easily be another devastating disappointment for some people, and that would likely add to the disappointment. My wife kept pestering me about it and making a bunch of suggestions. After a bit I began getting a little annoyed. Did I mention that we were at a bar? She would not stop. The kid was not due for months; they didn't even know the gender yet. I finally told her that if she asked me one more time I would come up with a name so vile that nobody would want to use it in public. Discussion of other topics lasted less than five minutes. Did I mention we were at a bar?
I started tossing out ridiculous names. She didn't flinch. She even suggested that I select some of them. This was not going as planned. I finally said "Doo Doo" and she winced. Then she even said something to the effect that that was ridiculous or awful or something. BINGO! I won!
For the rest of the night and on the drive back home the next day, she kept asking me what I was really going to choose. I told her that I had made my decision and wasn't going to change it. I figured that she would drop the topic for a couple of months and perhaps bring it up again. Nope. She told our daughter who was initially horrified and assumed I was joking. When I told her I was serious and how I had made the decision, she didn't say much. A couple of days later she said she was fine with it. A little while after that my wife accepted it. The first Christmas after our grandson was born, our daughter gave me that t-shirt knowing that I would wear it.
I am Doo Doo to my grandson 😃 I was over at their house recently and a friend of his who is 6-7 y/o walked up and introduced himself to me. He obviously was amused by my name and wanted to meet me. LOL!
