I love getting rid of all my loose change in them, but where I shop has ~20 machines and I don't go a busy times, so never holding anyone up.

My grocery store employs a checker who does this with every item:

  • 1. Pick up item, ponder it like you've never seen anything like it before.
  • 2. Pause
  • 3. Scan Item
  • 4. Pause
  • 5. Realize the scanner beeped happy
  • 6. Pause
  • 7. Slowly place item to the left
  • 8. Repeat process with next item

If someone's not bagging for him, it's a similar process for bagging each item.

I've learned to use the self-checkout machine and now I'm okay at it. My biggest hold up is getting the damn plastic bags open w/o licking my fingers, which have been touching everything in the grocery store for the last 20 minutes.

you should invest in a grocery bag (or two, if you usually buy a lot). better for the environment too.

I grab the paper bags and get 2 or 3 of them set up on the landing pad before I start scanning.

the larger grocery near me has three full sized self-checkout lanes with conveyor belt to scan a bunch of **** at once.

the worst self-checkers are fit moms or older hippie types with two dozen types of produce that require entering special codes

The self-scans I really hate are the ones that have the pay-pad on the "wrong" side of the scanner & bags, so that you have to contort yourself backwards to use the pay pad.

We have that. Problem is that when it gets crowded at the end, the belt stops. I will never use it unless I have someone with me to bag.

I've got a bunch of them in the car. Can I ever remember to bring them into the store? No, I cannot.

People that use self-checkout with more than a dozen items should be shot. If they are paying with cash - especially exact change - they should be drawn and quartered.

The local Target by my work, where I'd sometimes grab a couple of things over my lunch hour, was famous for this. They had four self-checkouts, and inevitably one would be broken, and two or all three of the others would be taken up by Karen types that would:

--have a full cart of 25+ items
--half of them are clothes where she has to search for the tag to scan it, and then take out the hanger and dispose of it
--take a minute to open her purse, then another to open her wallet, and pay with bills that all somehow are wrinkled enough to need to be run through 3x each
--slooooowly bag everything after they're done, not moving up enough to let someone else with like one item (like me) use the register and pay quick.

And it's not even like I had other options to pay for my 1-2 items, because they'd inevitably have a max of two real registers open, both of which would be five people deep and manned by a facsimile of the Kristen Wiig Target cashier character from SNL.

No one wants to hire anymore.

That Rush 2nd round presale is probably about to break the internet. I'm in two queues, expect to be shutout of both...

2 minutes!

That I could be so wrong about my ticket-buying experience. Got the tix I wanted (well, at what I was willing to pay) for the show I wanted without too much hassle. Bring on December 2026.

Don't worry, I'm going to eL lAy in June, also...

I guess I forgot to sing up for presale. As much as I enjoy Rush, not sure I want to see them with Peart.

May look on the secondary market later on though.

The 96 percent of times pro athletes have nothing interesting to say in interviews. They're there because they are obligated, why give the fans 8 minutes of them saying nothing?

The fact that there are sports press conferences and interviews. Who cares

geddy and alex without peart equivalent to city lights absent lawrence ferlinghetti
initially typed for the rhythm but naturally also this

You are Whitman, you are Poe, you are Mark Twain, you are Emily Dickinson and Edna St. Vincent Millay, you are Neruda and Mayakovsky and Pasolini, you are an American or a non-American, you can conquer the conquerors with words....
— Lawrence Ferlinghetti. From Poetry as Insurgent Art [I am signaling you through the flames].

sorry but neil wrote damn near everything they played and later concerts were experimenting with more than superficial research into his unlimited memory as a way to experiment with overlapping long standing rush song foundational rhythms across many traditional historic horizontal orientations as if unconstrained by useless canadian molasses tariffs

First presale was crazy, was in the waiting room 30 minutes for the first Ft. Worth show and by the time I got in only seats that were left were those VIP packages in the first 20 rows for $1k+. I love Rush and have paid too much for front row but **** that. Decided on a whim to look at tickets to the second Ft. Worth show and got seats at a "reasonable" price. Remember when seeing a major concert in the 80's was $10?

Did the same for the first Denver show and it was like the former of the Ft. Worth shows. Will certainly get tickets for the second Denver show but aftermarket I'm sure.

Peart is my favorite member and the one I wanted to meet the most. Wasn't going to go out of my way to make that happen, but if our paths ever crossed (lol), a simple thank you would all I would need to say.

Regardless, I see a couple positives and a negative about the upcoming shows. Peart appeared to dislike playing a number of songs so I think we'll get to hear stuff that they rarely play live and with them hiring at least one extra musician, it will allow for Geddy to focus on what he enjoys doing, which isn't doing 3+ things at once.

The bad news is I believe they were starting to lose it on R40 and that will have been 11 years ago.

Yeah, this. I heard bits and pieces of the R40 stuff on SiriusXM and they sounded pretty bad. I got to see them a couple of times way back in the day, I'll just fondly remember that.

I'm pissed that baseball doesn't put the runner on 2nd base when they play extra innings in the Playoffs.

Why do they use the rule in the regular season but not in the Playoffs?

Last nights game was a perfect example of why they should use this rule in the Playoffs.

NHL does the same thing for overtime in regular season v. playoffs.

I imagine I've told this story before, but here goes.

Some years back, I was in Vegas staying at Luxor. After getting checked in, walked up to Mirage to get tickets for Love the next night. Afterward, walked into MGM Grand, intending to play the evening poker tournament. On the way in, noticed an ad for Rush playing Grand Garden arena the next night. I think it was the Snakes & Arrows tour, but not sure.

While waiting, started not to feel great, so wandered the casino floor. Came upon that horse race game which looks kinda like the old tabletop hockey, with the plastic bubble on top. Watched a little, trying to figure out how this game worked, when one of the players exclaimed, "What a ripoff!" in a laughing voice. He must've gotten nosed out at the end.

Looked up at the players instead of the game. It was Geddy who made the statement. Noticed Alex and their manager also at the game. Did not notice if Neil was there.

I thought I might walk up and tell them thanks for all the music, but didn't want to be the guy that interrupts their night off.

Of course, the next morning, back to Mirage, swapped Love ticket for the following night, then to MGM to get one for Rush that night. First time seeing them, really enjoyable show.

Can't give up on 'em (Rush) now. Should be interesting to see how they improve (??) between LA in June and Phoenix in Dec.

The show in December 2026 (as if we'll still be a society then) now represents the most expensive single show ticket I've purchased. Dead and Co "Final Tour" (as long as you don't count ~30 shows at the Sphere since) held that distinction prior. In my defense, I didn't think I'd be able to see something like Rush again.

Plastic bag usage in 2025 is pathetic. In my city stores havent even been allowed to use them for years.

Then if I go to Walmart in some US areas they make up for it by putting less than 1 item per bag.

$10 on the nose - on the floor - however, I did have to pay admission to the Fair itself. Don’t recall how much that was. But I won a big stuffed bear for my special lady friend on the way out. That’s good value for a night out.

My first concert was Rush just a few days prior to that for a whopping $15. While I still have the ticket stub somewhere, here's a link to an image of a ticket from the show.

Mine for sure. Can't recall many paper tickets to any show since the R40 tour and I'm too lazy to keep a log somewhere.

Now I'm inspired to go dig out my ticket stubs as I've seen a number of great shows (early Tool) and not so great shows (The Who, 1989).
