The point of a hypothetical is to prove something, so just tell me what you’re trying to prove here and we can have a discussion

I’m not going to spend time writing out a thoughtful rationale for a hypothetical situation just so satisfy some vague point you’re trying to make. Just make it and I’ll address it

The moderation thread is for real, not imaginary, moderation issues, so if you have one please go ahead.

I feel like I'm trapped in a Twilight Zone episode.

This is beyond NutterButterVille.

Bye for now!

Chuck, you brought this same post up right when you got back to argue against your ban. Just make your point. That you shouldn’t have been banned? That you should be allowed to say similar things? That I’m a hypocrite?

I’m not interested in playing these roundabout games with you. You were given a substantive answer, one that I fully second and would just restate if asked.

Are you even reading my posts? I've said TWICE in the last forty minutes that my ban was deserved.

I'm not attempting to weave some grand meta-narrative here. That's why I asked a simple YES or NO question.

I'll withdraw that question for now.

I'll ask the question that you suggested:

Should I be allowed to say similar things about women that you said about men?

(For the record, anything I WOULD say about women would be magnitudes kinder toward women than your post about men.)

Thanks for your time, Jenn!

That question was answered already

Why don’t you just say what you want to say about women, Chuck, and we’ll see where it goes

There's definitely some kind of fetish operating here, and it's a little cringey to watch it play out in public.

Will do. Thanks, Jenn!

Why would a perv like you find it cringey?

It's not cool to involve other people in your humiliation/domination fetish without asking if they're into it first.

I appreciate that, but I really don't think CN has a humiliation/domination fetish. But she can speak for herself on that point.

FWIW, one reason why I don't favor CN's over-the-top, "I hate all men" comments, even though I believe she is only half-serious, is because it leads to endless efforts by some posters to probe the boundaries on what they can say about women, gay people, etc. The only argument those posters offer is that the moderator is guilty of hypocrisy if he or she doesn't allow the stuff about other groups. And hypocrisy is the worst sin in the world in the eyes of old people on the internet.

Why it is important to these people to constantly test boundaries is beyond me, but that sort of toddler mentality among some posters has been a feature of this forum for as long as I can remember.

Men often operate on the assumption that they are the impartial ones. The hypocrisies they see are often really just differences from their viewpoint.

Why can't others be "only half-serious"? If the side of all that is good and right (in the eyes of moderators) can have one way of posting, but the side of vile and evil devils (again, in the eyes of the beholder) is held to a different standard it can only lead to problems.

Bc the resentments of one individual are not equal to systemic and institutionalized discrimination, but that’s grad level humanities so I doubt you guys are gonna understand it

I don't see hypocrisy as being some non-issue

It's half of why we can't have nice things in this world (the other half being the closely related whataboutism).

I know the β€œI take my dog anywhere I want” guy is not the one saying this

You're still giving him attention; I'd say he's pretty good at what he's doing.

Bleh, don't encourage him.

by Crossnerd m

That's neither hypocrisy nor whataboutism.

Hypocrisy would be if I said that others shouldn't also be able to take their dogs whereever they want--- which I do not say.

I find that to be total BS . The hypocrisy is that folks get suspended for a Misogyny comment that I thought may have been a joke while folks get a pass calling someone a date rapist or wife beater and lets not add in I wish that all the Maga folks die . Lets not forget the trash about Christians

by Didace m

Anyone can be half-serious in theory.

by Luckbox Inc m

I don't see hypocrisy as being some non-issue

I don't see hypocrisy as a total non-issue. I also don't see it as the most important problem on the internet.

Some people are missing my point. Let's assume entirely for the sake of argument that CN's arguments about power dynamics and systemic bias are completely bogus and that she should not be saying X. Why is it so important to say dumb thing Y just because CN or someone else said X? When pressed, the answer almost always is some version of "I should be allowed to say thing Y because CN or someone else said X," which is really no answer at all to the question of why it is important to you to say Y.

I dont think you need grad level to understand this point at all, but after reading 2p2 Im convinced this knowledge is reserved for a very tiny number of people.

Huh?

I think I'm quite good at poking back at Trolly.

Obv his comment was directed at me, not you.
