So...when someone check-calls flop and turn, then donks river, especially multi-way, that's usually going to be a strong hand. But what strong hands can hero have here?

If V thinks hero is limp-calling from the SB and leading river with AQ, it's not too much of a stretch to think hero could have A5o, or 54dd, or 44, and stacks V when he snaps off the jam.

So hero's strongest hands that V can actually beat in this line are 9 combos of AQ, and 1 of 65s. But if he thinks V1 folded an A, that just leaves 6 combos of AQ and 1 of 65s.

But apparently hero's going to bet-fold AQ when V jams. So hero's left with 1 combo of 65s that might call, versus the 6 combos of A5o, 54dd, and 44 that are boated up. If hero folds 65s, then V's jam can only get called by better.

I wouldn't have taken this line, but OP's 1/2 pot bet-fold for value on the river actually seems defensible when he limp-calls pre and check-calls the whole way, because he can get called by AX that thinks he's FOS or trying to bluff someone off a chop.

But V's line with 85 is sketchy. He's given two opponents a free turn card and a cheap river card with a hand that isn't nutted, then jams over a pretty polarized river donk.

But you recommended that H call V's river raise...

Yes, I did, based on the reads given in the OP, and the fact that AQ is ahead of enough of V's range.

I also said I'd have 3B pre, and donked the flop, and just checked the river. I wouldn't have gotten to the river the way OP did, but magically teleported there, I think calling is higher EV than folding.

Different V, in a different game, I'd have a different opinion.

If everyone is saying hero should fold AQ, that should make it more apparent that V's line is bad. If hero folds AQ, what hands can he have that will call?

(It's just boats.)

Preflop is close for villain. The slow play of 85 on A55,r is bad.

There is a stereotypical mid and high stakes type player, which is wealthy amateur. This villain seems to be that, even if he may be able to best 1/3.
