What a terrible ****ing last 2 PAs from the Blue Jays lol
That's really poor baserunning by Barger there. I understand the urge to score from second on a base hit. But he has to know that Hernandez is playing super shallow in left with Gimenez at the plate. That ball wasn't actually close to getting down.
It's especially bad on replay because Barger didn't push it enough to have scored if the ball had dropped. He just hung out in no man's land, which is the worst possible option.
Very unlikely it will matter. They had to score two runs anyway. It would be more of an issue if you think Barger would have gotten a triple, but I don't think he would have risked it with nobody out.
We will never know. It's easier to score one run from second with nobody out than two from second and third with nobody out. Yeah it isnt like runners starting on 1st and 2nd rather than just at 1st with a GRD but it isnt irrelevant.

I guess that is technically true, but only barely. The Dodgers were playing back and were conceding the second run on any groundball, and on any flyball they would have prioritized keeping Barger from advancing to third over preventing the second run from scoring from third.

Yeah but a few % is a few % in a high leverage situation, and maybe he advances to third on the throw, or ball bounces away from the OF, etc etc.
It's not like it insta-stops them winning but it isn't nothing imo.
Dodgers c. -135 tomorrow. Come on Toronto don't let everyone down.
Straw had to esnure it would not be caught, so I think if not wedged it is still 2nd and 3rd with no out. He has zero reason to risk getting thrown out at home.
And, on the next play Barger messed up. but it is not like anything was in the bag. It still would have been 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs.
I was kind of dissapointed that Clements went after that high first pitch. But, he has been so good. It is what it is.
But, Dodgers ran good. They still hit like crap but had an effective 3rd inning.
Maybe the ghost of Scherzer still has one big outing in the tank and can retire with 7 innings of 1 run ball in a WS G7
I think it would've still been 2nd and 3rd either way. Ball in the wall made no difference and they had no reason to take any chances to score the meaningless 2nd run.
So Ohtani is starting tomorrow?
What's the over/under on pitchers used tomorrow? 16?
Jays need Yesavage to pull a Bumgarner in relief. Offer him a contract extension before the game.
Crazy ending.
Glasnow doing a Houdini act and only having to throw 3 pitches is amazing for LA.
Its really annoying that the final play is available from a million angles but I haven't found one video yet that shows Bargers baserunning in full. When I see him stopping, it looks like he should get back, he must've hesitated there in no man's land, but I've yet to actually see it. How is it that no tv crew feels this is relevant? Its the most important part of the play.
Seriously how is there not a single camera angle that follows Barger ????
1000 replays and not one time do we get to see what actually mattered. So **** tilting.

It isn't literally nothing. Just very close to nothing. I would very surprised if it changed the Blue Jays' winning percentage by more than half a percent, and not shocked if it changed it by less than a tenth of a percent.

You pretty much know what happened even from the replays they did show. He broke a couple of steps when he saw the line drive. At that point, you have two options. The first is keep going because you know you have to hump it to score if the ball drops and the leftfielder is playing shallow. The second is to throw on the breaks, and start edging back to second with the understanding that you will only be able to advance to third if the ball drops but you won't get doubled off if the ball stays up.
Barger chose the middle option. He didn't commit enough to score if the ball dropped, but he wasn't cautious enough to keep from getting doubled off if the ball was caught. I guess that I would curious to see what the third base coach was doing, but that's really a split second decision that the player has to make. You don't really rely on your third base coach as a base runner in that spot.
I'm surprised that Barger isn't getting dragged even more for this blunder than he is. Because you also have to remember that Hernandez didn't pick that ball off his shoe tops. Barger had no business being caught in the wilderness on a ball that Hernandez caught at shoulder height.
LOL. Brakes, not breaks.
The MLB minimum is $760K, but he's been in the majors for less than a month.

Maybe he stumbled or something, but for some reason, nobody can show it.
You see him stopping, and he should've been able to get back, based on when you see him throw on the brakes. He had no time to edge back on this play, he had to hustle back immediately at that point and clearly he delayed but no camera angle has shown this happening.
Hard to throw him under the bus when he's a big reason they're even there and even had a chance in this game. He's been a beast all post season. He'll be a big part of their chances in game 7.
