Settle down. I wasn't calling anyone a jihadist and I wasn't defending Ted Cruz. I just didn't really get the point of the meme the first time I saw it, which either means I am thick or that it isn't that effective a meme. Whatever.

It would be like saying there are thousands or tens of thousands of people sexually attracted to pumpkins that will stick it in a jack-o-lantern if x happens. Then x happens, and only a handful of those people actually stick it in a jack-o-lantern. The rest of them are like ya I'm not really sexually attracted to them, was just pretending to be for reasons.

Just an observation, but Mamdani/NYC Mayoral Race certainly should’ve had its own thread awhile ago imo.

as usual, the Repubs try to make the Dems look much better than they acuall are. the fact is that Mamdani will be another milquetoast Dem supporter of ICE and mass murder as Bernie and AOC. but hey, at least he doesnt have Nazi tattoo.
His policies aren't extreme. Even his "seizing the means" of the utilities is optional and people can continue to solar up their house or buy more hamster wheels or do w/e if they wanted. His free buses and childcare just costs money.
I'd imagine that he may move a tiny bit to the right, at least economically, if he was under the impression that the magic bean stalk of increasing taxes will take care of everything.
And if he can't find a way to sustainably fund it, the world won't end, NYC just won't have a lot of those things.

Like I said, I have a strong sense of how this will go. He isn't going to be able to sustainably fund a great deal of what he wants to do. As a result, he eventually will quit trying to do some of those things. And then the people who believed he somehow would do those things will claim that he has sold out and turn on him. Victor is just getting a head start.
And hes going to drive a frothing fanaticism daily with the twitter ******s. Like Obama on crack

I could definitely be wrong, but I think Mamdani's proposals like city owned utilities and free buses/childcare, govt funded grocery stores would be less likely to trigger a budget shock than some massive California style program because it's still asset based and scalable as opposed to ongoing external funding.
If it works and the people like it then great, if not, I don't think you're in some irreversible budget crises that causes people to leave the state. But I could obviously be wrong on all of that.
