Moderation Questions
The last iteration of the moderation discussion thread was a complete disaster. Numerous attempts to keep it on topic fa
It's ridiculous what this thread has become. Is there not a low content thread for people to talk nonsense in? This thread should be dedicated to moderation related issues. I remember a time when moderators would redirect the discussion back to strictly moderation talk. What changed? I have a theory. The nonsense talk was introduced and encouraged because a certain moderator w
I don't know what you are imagining happened, but as I recall, what actually happened was that King Spew concluded that all efforts to have a thread limited to moderation issues were doomed to fail. He changed the title to something that signaled the thread as a catch-all for whatever. The title has since changed back again. I'm not sure when that happened but the thread has continued to be a catch-all.
Its the catch all thread until moderation issues come up, then its the whiny clownshoes thread

Yeah, because coming in cold and saying, "Hey, guise, quick question for you: Is it better that I expect to get laid after painting my walls and spending $20 on my date, or is it better that I don't expect to get laid after painting my walls and spending $20 on my date? By the way, I don't really care what your answer is because only the former scenario is correct" is sticking to moderation-related issues.
I sometimes have trouble with the lock on the house I'm living in. Easy for me to forget which way to turn the key,
As a 90’s latchkey kid, I frequently forgot my house key but the garage was always unlocked. One day I decided I didn’t want to wait outside for hours so I found a crow bar and learned how to break in. I did that for years every time I forgot my key until I was 16 with a car and it was more difficult to lose my keys.

You broke a crow bar? Are you sure you weren't on the steroids?
Lol

You repeatedly broke your garage door by forcing it open with a crow bar? I can't imagine your parents were too thrilled by that move.

No, the garage was always open, so I found a crow bar and broke into the house. Yes, I did that repeatedly and they never knew I was doing it until one day my dad noticed the door frame had a slight bend.

Why would a thread limited to moderation be doomed to fail? I've seen moderation threads on other sites work just fine. If somebody is new to Two Plus Two and has a moderation issue they are going to be severely disappointed coming here as they should be. At least change the thread title to indicate you aren't serious about moderation issues.
Not most of it, no. Language has, and has to have, a certain logic, otherwise we would just communicate in grunts and heavy blows with blunt instruments. (Although, looking at this forum sometimes, maybe we do.) But there are a few catch-you-out snobbisms which are pretty arbitrary, like the infamous supposed rule against the split infinitive, which was only invented because a Latin infinitive is a single word that can't be split and certain people wished to convey that only gentlemen with the benefit of a classical education could talk proper. Still, that rule kind of succumbed to the popular power of TV with Star Trek's 'To boldly go...', which had a certain rhetorical rightness to it.

When I was a moderator, I tried to limit the moderation thread to moderation and I unstickied it. It was only moderately successful, and I occasionally had to spend time moving stuff out of the moderation thread, which was annoying.
I'm fine with updating the thread title to indicate that we are, indeed, unserious about moderation issues

My brother. You keep referencing the Latin.
My grandmother, well, she wrote the book on it. She was literally a professor of Latin till he died this summer at 99. Like, this woman wrote textbooks.

MEMO FROM THE TWO THINGS CAN BE TRUE AT THE SAME TIME DESK:
1. The Moderation thread is a catch-all thread for random stuff.
2. Moderation issues are taken seriously by the moderators in this thread.
Hope that helps.

1. No. That's stupid. Either be a "Moderation" thread or don't be.
2. The Moderators are either correctly hands of like Coordi or simply punitive. I don't see much effort in trying to improve the posting in forums. I have brought up several moderation issues that were completely ignored.
