Favorite Youtube Channels

I'm a Youtube addict...I probably watch Youtube more than any actual television. And I'm curious to know what other people enjoy watching on Youtube.

So this thread is to post your favorite channels and Youtubers.

***

Now, I'm not a gamer or a nerd or a Harry Potter fan or young or Scandi, but this might be my favorite channel right now:

NerdForge

Nerdforge is a Norwegian arts and crafts YouTube channel and duo consisting of Martina and Hansi, who are a young couple living in Norway that operate their channel out of their new apartment space in Drammen.

They spend DAYS making nerd stuff like a gaming room with an academia theme:

It took them a MONTH to make this room!

Or made specialty oversized books for fantasy author Brandon Sanderson and present them to him:

I do not why this is so entertaining to me, it just is. I guess I love seeing people nerd out over something they love...and these two are so incredibly talented and Martina is ridiculously charming and funny.

***

That's just one channel I like...there are others lol. I will post some more if this tread gets any traction and you guys post some of your own.

btw, if you spend any time at all watching Youtube, a premium account to get rid of ads is a necessity.

Another one:

https://www.youtube.com/@TimelineChannel

Timeline World History Channel

If you like documentaries about history, this is the channel for you. Great, digestible and informative videos about all sorts of things.

They have sections for WWII, ancient civilizations, nuclear proliferation, etc. You'll find something interesting here.

I listen to a lot of music via Youtube, and one of my favorite channels is this:

https://www.youtube.com/@TokyoTones

Great channel that plays chill music while taking you on drives or walks through Tokyo and other Japanese places. From the channel:

Description
sit back, relax and let us take you to new places.

Welcome to TOKYOTONES. Our channel lets you virtually explore the rich vibrant cities of Japan. The city walk tour videos explores different neighbourhoods from famous locations like Shinjuku and Shibuya, to more quiet and hidden locations. Come along and explore with us as we take you on a journey!

Very relaxing!

My favorite music reactors are these two:

andyandalex

Two college guys checking out the great music of the past for the first time. Andy & Alex are young men who have been doing this channel together for over 5 years, when they started it in college. It is now pretty damn big. They are both musicians and have interesting things to say about the songs they listen to. They are both quite funny, too.

I watch a lot of young people watching movies for the first time, and one of my favorites is this channel:

awkwardashleigh

Ashleigh is a hilarious, uncensored, a-bit-crazy young woman who wears her heart on her sleeve and will laugh and bawl and really get into the movies and TVs she watches. I have great affection for her. She makes me laugh.

She just finished with her annual Halloween month where she watches a lot of horror movies.

I love watching mansion tours and ridiculous houses videos lol...but my favorite is probably this one:

ArvinHaddadOfficial

Arvin Haddad is a real estate guy in L.A., who critiques all these mansions and why they are worth it or not. He's quite funny and knowledgeable, and if I ever win the lottery, I'm hiring him to help me buy a huge house.

Ashleigh's reactions are great. I also watch a lot of YouTube (+1 for Premium). Mostly reaction and video game let's plays/speed runs.

Popcorn in Bed - Cassie is your typical sweet mom who doesn't curse but has branched out of her comfort zone to watch movies and shows she may otherwise never have seen. She recently started watching GOT, and is approaching the Red Wedding. I don't know how she'll handle it. She also watches horror movies during October. Her reaction to Sinners was fun.

Just Trust Ash - Ash and his girlfriend Hannah watch movies and both give very genuine and emotional reactions. Their reaction to the Twighlight movies was hilarious.

Don't Trust Hannah - Hannah's channel. She mostly focuses on TV Shows and recently started reacting to Breaking Bad.

Holden and Jen Hardmen - Husband and wife. Not the best as far as the actual reactions go and Holden's jokes are pretty corny, but I appreciate the thoughts they provide afterwards.

TBR Schmidtt - Another husband and wife channel. Really good reactions and I also enjoy their reviews and thoughts.

Doug Helvering and Virgin Rock - These are 2 music reaction channels where they come from a classical background but react to mostly rock music.

Rick Beato - If you like music and aren't following Rick Beato. You're missing out. Great source of education and his interviews are always fantastic.

OMG Cassie and her sister are one of my faves! Did you see when Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarie reached out to them after they saw their reaction to MI: Fallout? They invited them to the premier of MI 6 and the sisters filmed their trip and meeting the filmmakers and everything...it was completely charming. I have a a huge crush on Cassie lol.

And yes, Rick Beato has an amazing channel. He's awesome. Love his long interviews with music legends.

What I love about watching younger people's reactions to movies and music is that they come to them with virtually no preconceptions about what's "supposed" to be good or bad or in between. They just see it for the first time with no knowledge of it. It's awesome.

I did. That was great.

get in line, buddy. lol

Almost forgot to mention Lightweight Reacts. She's mostly a gamer (Lightweight Gaming), but started doing movie and show reactions over the last year or so.

I tend to judge a reaction channel by how they react to one of my favorite movies (Interstellar), and hers is one of the best.

I watch quite a bit casually, like the guitar based stuff and a video game channel and a cooking channel or 2, but there are a few video essayists whose stuff I watch like they're films. And a lot of them actually are.

FD Signifier - He did a video on Hamilton: The Musical early on in his career that put him on my radar. I was obsessed with that show and it was interesting to get a perspective like his. At that point, I think he was barely above 2k subs. Then he did a video on Bo Burnham's Outside and he blew the **** up enough that he's been full-time for a few years and has consistently put out great work. I have a Nebula subscription almost exclusively to get an advanced/ad-free version of whatever he does next. This video is my favorite of his and it was my "documentary of the year" last year by a lot. He's working on a Tyler Perry video that will probably take that title.

Lindsay Ellis - One of the OG's from what I've heard and I've watched most of her big videos and quite a few more than once. I think her entire catalog starting around the end of Game Of Thrones is pretty damn elite. She got "canceled" a few years ago on some absolutely ridiculous bullshit and mostly only posts on Nebula now. Her video on that cancellation is amazing, but nothing can touch this:

CJ The X - In the running for best YouTuber on the platform. Probably the top of every "Your favorite creators favorite creator" list. The video below is what got me into them and they put out banger after banger after banger, and often on subjects I don't care about but the videos are incredible.

A few others that aren't as well known but put out great stuff:

Hoots Hootman (was Little Hoots like a month ago...)
Foreign Man In A Foreign Land
lil Bill
Skip Intro
BeigeFrequency
Yhara Zayd
The Elephant Graveyard
Super Eyepatch Wolf (actually is a larger channel than anyone else on this list)
Maggie Mae Fish
MuneCat
Chris Waves

Ok, this is what I wanted, other channel suggestions! The problem with YouTube is that their algorithm tends to limit what it recommends for me.

SuperfastMatt never lets me down.

I haven't watched much Hollywood output in years. It's almost strange to me that anyone would pay for Hulu or whatever, when youtube is so much better. You can learn about any subject you can think of. If you do want an hour of disposable entertainment before bed or whatever, there are tons of classic TV shows and movies to choose from and many talented youtubers who just do light entertainment.

So, I could spam this thread endlessly. But here are a few channels I like on various subjects.

There are a number of good channels about classical music, including The Classical Nerd and Samual Andreyev. There is a hugely popular one called 2 set violin, which is often good but often a bit too memey and maybe more for younger people. At the other end, Tonebase has super in depth videos often featuring big names and geared a bit more to people who actually play this stuff. But I think the best produced and most accessible is by a working British composer named David Bruce.

For history, often the best thing to do is just find real documentaries. I like the BBC stuff with Mary Beard and Lucy Worsley, who are respected historians. You have to be careful with subjects like this, as there is no shortage of crackpots or just sloppy amateurs. But a fun, strictly youtube channel is Max Miller's Tasting History, in which he prepares dishes from various historical periods and fills in the history surrounding them. It's extremely popular, but I'm sure some people don't know about it.

Somewhat similar, but these people are more into historical reenactments.

Best baseball channel is Foolish Baseball.

Religion/religious history seems to be an unusually well developed field in youtube/podcast world, with many top academics creating content or doing interviews including Tabor, Paigle, Goodacre and others. I like Ryan Reeves, who is a Christian teaching at a seminary or something like that. If you ever want to know about Quakers or Presbyterians or whatever he has a nice hour long video on it. Misquoting Jesus is really a podcast by famed NT scholar Bart Ehrman but it' on youtube. History Valley is interviews with various scholars, though he sometimes interviews people who are more fringe.

That's all mostly Christianity related, but I really enjoy this channel by a religious studies PhD student who covers all different types of religion. Did you know there's a religion based around John The Baptist?

I guess that's enough for now.

all these new channels to check out! Cool.

Dope or Nope (now Dope) was a channel I watched all the time back in the day. Just a fun product review show with silly jokes and banter. The channel really died down lately due to the channel's owner, Mathias, dealing with some health issues.

I'll still revisit some older videos from time to time.

Most of my YouTube time is spent on watching videos related to chess or videogames (speedruns or showing how to beat difficult bosses in Hollow Knight: Silksong). My favorite chess channel is GM Hikaru, followed by GothamChess. Anna Cramling is very charming and I like that she now also has videos in Spanish (her mom is a Swedish grandmaster, her dad is a Spanish grandmaster).

Outside of chess or videogames, I find Pitch Meetings to be hilarious.
