The downside of taking the ball first in the regular season is if you run out of time like GB almost did earlier in the season.
It still feels better to go second and know what you need.
Third possession with time is less likely in the regular season.
I can see the time issue, but the "know what you need" argument seems like less of a factor here.
This isn't the same as "Down 15 late and just scoring a TD" where going for 2 first is always right. Your decision will impact the other team.

Knowing if you need a FG or TD and whether or not you have to go for it on 4th down is gigantic.
