The "LOLCANADA" thread...again

So what's new?

I've noticed the Liberals are now ahead in all major polls and Trudeau hasn't even started to campaign yet

WRONG! iPhone isn't a NEED it's a technology that becomes obsolete within a year of being produced.

LMAO. Of course iphones - like oil - obey laws of supply and demand and so precisely the same way that if apple makes an iphone it is going to get sold, if someone drills a barrel of oil it too will get sold. That transient effect doesn't disprove anything about supply and demand.

The only question is why you told us that supply and demand doesn't apply to energy and than pathetically backtracked and pretended like you never said it.

Smith for PM!! Great day for Alberta and Canadians

David Eby will not be happy but sadly he doesn't represent a large portion of BC. He represents Vancouver and the Island . Recent polls have shown a support for an Alberta new Pipeline

Amazing that Uke voted for Carney does he have any climate strategies of Justin left or is Uke a Liberal Cultist

Well you'll notice that the agreement actually includes both increasing of the industrial carbon tax as well as carbon capture and storage systems in Alberta. As I've argued for a while, the consumer carbon tax while disappointing to be lost was always less important than the industrial carbon tax. So yes, there are climate strategies here, albeit perhaps not as strong as I personally would like. And we still say significant differences between Carney's pro-oil, pro-development standpoints that maintains some level of environmental stewardship and Poilievre who for instance wanted to also scrap the industrial carbon tax. So I think the vote choice remains clear.

by Shifty86

Because of the carbon tax? Or COVID, working from home, inflation, etc.

?????? Seriously can you try and keep up? It's like I'm asking my 6 year old to eat his vegetables who then tells me he doesn't like green beans because his friend at school loves hockey.

Nobody is talking about the covid period because why would they? Are we going to draw any meaningful conclusions about consumer behavior during a PANDEMIC? No.

R3tard.

Suffer.

Nope.

No, because Fred in his Ford uses the gas regardless.

You're honestly too stupid to insult. If 100k Freds don't change their consumer behavior but 100k Elenors do, the carbon tax is CLEARLY working.

You're not actually so stupid you think the only way it works is if 100% of the population participates right?

Not sure how that's an international problem, but ok.

lol. What a dummy.

Smith is a traitor, borderline useless premier and will obviously never become the PM but it is a great day for Canadians indeed.

Good job Carney, gotta give the man props.

Of course. We're the only resource rich country heading towards becoming a third world country.

lmao just inept across the board. Third world lmao

Keep your head in the sand little man. Keep pretending all is fine.

ok buddy just because we had some Indian TFW come doesn't mean we are heading to the third world

So good old Steven Guilbeaut resigned today . Kudos to him showing some integrity and resigning from cabinet. Took him long enough I would have had more respect for him if he did it when Carney dropped the carbon tax

Everyone should celebrate with a drink in a plastic cup with a plastic straw

R3tard.

I hope you are able to work on your anger issues, for your child's sake.

What period of time are you talking about then when the federal carbon tax lowered consumption?

by Pablito

Nope.

Yep.

It's an international problem that China and India account for majority of the emissions?

He drew his line in the sand. Uke refuses to.

I draw my line in the sand at understanding basic supply and demand.

But not the difference between a good and a need and why millions of iPhones don't get sold every year while a barrel of oil from 2018 still gets consumed no matter what.

you must be onto something.

so much iphone arent sold that apple is the second largest corporations in the world.
only at least double of the value of saudi aramco, the biggest by far oil corporation in the world.

lol. My bro after all this time can’t wrap his head around the idea that necessities like energy are still economic goods and basic economic rules still apply.

Who knows wtf he is on about claiming millions of iPhones arnt sold???? Can someone else who doesn’t understand economics help me translate?

Still cant answer this question

Let me post this question again If A = the amount that you collect in carbon tax rebates and B is the amount you pay how are they calculating B. It has to be based on an average and you should easily be able to say we base it on the average family of four owning one vehicle and driving 15,000 Kms and spending this much to heat their home . Sadly they would never tell us that becuase than many CDN's would realize I drive more than that and own two cars .

Ah yes your conspiracy theory that the PBO is incorrectly computing costs despite having zero evidence they are doing so but for your gut feeling. This is why I leave the actual economic analysis to the actual experts and just inform you when you are saying something that is contradicted by PBO reports.

Because I'm such a good forum citizen, I did a bit of investigating. Let's just say this: it's complicated, and it gets complicated quickly. ECCC uses something called a dynamic computable general equilibrium model called "EC-PRO" for estimating macroeconomic effects of things like carbon taxes (or many other policies). Basically think of it like this: if you implement a policy change of some form, how does that policy impact the new equilibrium on all sorts of stuff in the economy from prices, consumption, wages, etc etc etc. But this is like an entire economy wide model of behaviours that has distributions of people and behaviours throughout the economy, not just one archetype. In contrast:

It has to be based on an average and you should easily be able to say we base it on the average family of four owning one vehicle and driving 15,000 Kms and spending this much to heat their home

this is an impossibly simple model that imagines just a single number imposed on every canadian. That is not - NOT - how they do it at all.

No my question remains is the PBO calculating it based on the average the Liberals give him or is he sourcing it elsewhere . Either way he/she/they/them/ze/za should be able to tell us what that average is .
its called full disclosure

Neither. As was explained to you, they don't have one "average" that comes from the Liberals or anywhere else. Instead ECCC uses a CGE called EC-PRO that is an economy wide dynamic model. Your question is a bit like someone claiming that Naiver-Stokes equations are rigged because the liberals gave them the number 3. Like just complete category error, ignoring the conspiracy theory.

Poor Pierre. Total fall out with Doug Ford before. You'd think he'd be more ideologically with Smith, but now trying to dismiss the MOU as meaningless and spreading conspiracy theories that Carney doesn't actually want a pipeline. He tried that with the carbon tax, suggesting it wasn't actually going to go away, which was stupid, and now disproved. As much as I disagree with Smith, she is a better politician than Poilievre.

If Carney is smart he calls an election in the spring . One good friend who only voted Pierre because he said the liberals need to be punished likes Carney and said he would vote for him now. Even myself may consider a Carney vote as Steven is gone .

The NDP are broke and none of the leadership candidates are appealing and Pierre is just done such a bad job as opposition leader the last 6 months

Why start an election and spend hundreds of millions again ?
It’s working fine for now …

I genuinely don't know why Pierre doesn't just **** off. I'm sure the money and benefits are great but in what world is he ever becoming PM? I'd vote Carney before Pierre and I think the liberal party is without question the worst thing that has ever happened to Canada.
