It's not. Mongidig is a painful troll.

Yep. I can’t do anything because he will feign ignorance / argue otherwise.

It’s best to just not seriously engage with him.

lol iggles

Too many paper jockeys in here

At the end of the day, arguing over this is pretty dumb. Either way it's a very marginal difference in a very low percentage situation.

I'm curious when the more information window opens. Opponent up 15-0 in first quarter. You score touchdown. 15-6. We going for 2 to get more information?

I’m curious how many times the team wins the game when they go for 2 after the second TD and fail instead of failing after the first TD. Because that’s what this debate is actually about.

Had Philly converted yesterday, most people would be like, yeah that’s probably the right move. But Philly failed, so results-oriented brain can’t help itself to think Philly played incorrectly.

The same amount of times. Zero.

So then what’s the argument?

Unless you really believe the chance to convert the 2 pt is higher after the 2nd TD instead of the 1st TD.

I'd like someone that's been arguing about this the entire last page to provide an answer. To me it would make more sense to go for 2 in this scenario than with 4 minutes left in the game, but what do the analytics say?

Assuming your team isn’t absolutely putrid at 2 pt conversions, it’s almost always +wp to go for 2 down 9.

I think they should have just not missed the extra point earlier so they wouldn't have to think about all this nonsense. Easy peasy.

That could have saved us all time avoiding this debate. Bastards.

If they scored touchdown with 20 seconds left, go for 2? More info right.

When in doubt, it’s always the kicker’s fault.

Oh and yea no one ever engage with mongidig again.

I wonder what the unquantifiable mentality/mindset would be of a team down 7 vs down 8

What's this about? I took a side and argued my point. I had well thought out posts.

Why would you say this?

OMFG stop ****ing saying this. An 8 point deficit is not "a one possession game". It's a one-possession game ~48% of the time and a two-possession game the other ~52%. You don't ****ing know how many possessions it is until you try the 2PC. (By the same token a 7 point game isn't always a one-possession game either, but it is 90%+ of the time so people handwave that away.)W

I don't know what you are talking about. If a team is down 7 it's a one possession game. If a team is down 8 it's a one possession game. I'm sure any broadcaster or coach or player would describe it the same.

It doesn't really bother me when someone says a 7 or 8 point deficit is a one possession game, but the argument against it is there is no one single play that can result in a guaranteed 7 or 8 points.

The 7 points or the 8 points happens within a single possession. What am I missing here?

Not necessarily. Eight points, or even seven, are not guaranteed after a TD on one possession.

The loser mentality is to always expect the optimal outcome under given circumstances. That is why so many people want to extend the hope of winning as long as possible (ie, until the last TD in a football game). You frequently see that same mentality by poor players in casino tournaments of various games.

You can engage with mongidig.

But don’t say I didn’t warn you.
