I am shocked that Auburn hired Golesh. I was certain it was going to be Durkin after Sumrall withdrew.

I can’t believe Auburn didn’t **** this up. Genuinely shocked. We didn’t just promote Durkin and call it a day and we got a coach a few other teams wanted. (Florida/arky). Arky was on the verge of hiring golesh a few days ago

Lane gonna live to regret this. Woulda thought he took Florida or the giants if he left, taking LSU where this was usurped by the Governor and attorney general of LSU, I mean ****ing good luck with this clownshow

I'm looking forward to it!

The downside is that patience may be required for full enjoyment.

Man Kiffin not even closing it out is some all world pettiness by lol miss

Also entirely on brand for the man of the projector or doom and the bus of fate

Until 20 minutes ago I really believed bolting for LSU would be a yuge mistake but imagine being Ole Miss, finally making the CFP, and rather than letting the guy who singlehandedly got your school back to relevance get you as far as can be before he leaves and maybe making your school look like a destination being such petulant bitches for being scorn that you’ll allow an interim to make fools of you

Ole miss promoted Pete Golding for their permanent HC. Guess they are just trying to keep this thing together post lane kiffin

O/U on total minutes of prayer Kiffin spent to help him make this decision?

Not surprised it got buried by Kiffinpalooza, but Sparty canned Jonathan Smith and is supposedly set to hire Pat Fitzgerald.

LOL Sparty.

Ole Miss seems happy to have him.

I was never very impressed with him as their DC, but this year they seemed to do just enough except for their determination to rush three vs UGA. Time will tell if he's HC material.

I'm guessing he'll do ok in the tournament.

Keeping Lane around would be an awful, untenable look for Ole Miss. And you'd be letting the new coach for one of your rivals recruit your own players to go with him, from the inside, for a full month. You can't let it continue - you want to go, go. It's done.

And Stoops is gone!

All you had to do was not get blown out by Vandy and Louisville...

Congrats man! But who the hell are you gonna get at this point in the cycle? Seems late. Should have done this months ago if Kentucky was gonna move on from him.

Or maybe they have someone lined up I guess…

Will Stein or Brian Hartline would probably be the betting favorites, but could be anyone.

Totally agree. If anyone is being a petulant bitch it's Lane Kiffin.

This is like your wife telling you this week that she found somebody else she wants to get married to, but she's not going to file for divorce until January because we've already made holiday plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Yeah great idea honey. That's cool with me.

by chuckleslovakian m

Pretty clear what is going to happen with UK. Mark Stoops is going to stubbornly stay another year and not really improve. Meanwhile the perfect hire in Jon Sumrall is going to take another P5 job and kill it.

Oh hey, I just found this post from a year ago...

That anyone being… chip kelly? Lmao

As details come out I retract everything and was clearly wrong. Lane is such a clown lol

Love it though. CFB needs him

Good for them big game hunting guys with big upside potential and not just rolling out some retread.

I haven’t been following the Kiffin story closely, just what I’ve seen in headlines and the bottom line crawl. I want to be sure I have this sequence of events correct:

1) A week or two ago, rumors of heavy interest in Kiffin by LSU and Florida
2) The buzz becomes so loud, Kiffin says he’ll have a decision on his future after the Egg Bowl.
3) …Which means he’s DEFINITELY leaving. You don’t announce you’ll have an announcement if you’re staying.
4) Betting markets price accordingly
5) Florida, before the Egg Bowl, says they’re moving in another direction.
6) Ole Miss wins, aTm loses on Friday
7) Announcement coming Saturday now
8) Bama wins a spirited Iron Bowl
9) Kiffin to LSU breaks, AFTER the Iron Bowl.

If Auburn had won, then it would have been Ole Miss in the SECCG. Since they won’t let him coach in the playoff, do we think THAT’s the consideration he was waiting for?

Or, if Bama had lost, do we think they’d be crazy enough to fire DeBoer? And open up the dream job Kiffin wanted all along?

So many possible permutations of the last few days.

The buzz about LSU began when Kelly was fired. Florida's started when Napier got canned. When Kiffin wouldn't commit to staying amid the rumors, some big donors at Ole Miss reportedly got annoyed since he had done the same thing three years ago re: Auburn. Ole Miss then lost four of their last five possibly due to his distraction. The donors pressed the AD to give Kiffin a deadline to commit one way or the other.

Florida reportedly dropped out of the running when Kiffin apparently sent them a more definitive answer about their job than he gave Ole Miss about theirs.

When it seemed likely he would leave, the AD informed him he wouldn't be coaching in the playoffs. Kiffin wanted to have his cake and eat it too and allegedly threatened to take all the offensive coaches and some players with him before the playoffs. The announcement of his decision was originally planned for the Saturday after Friday's Egg Bowl. When A&M lost and it looked possible that Ole Miss might make the SEC CG the next week, the announcement was postponed for a day. I don't know which party made that decision, but Kiffin is obviously the person in control of his mouth. The AD had made it clear prior to the Egg Bowl that substantial contingencies had been planned for Kiffin not being allowed to coach in the playoffs. It seems things got very heated after the Egg Bowl.

I think everyone was caught by surprise that Ole Miss might have another game in a week. IMO Kiffin may have thought he could slide into Bama if they lost the Iron Bowl. I was surprised there wasn't more speculation about him going there when Saban left.

Kiffin may now have replaced Tuberville as Ole Miss' biggest villain. If that turns out to be the case, he really climbed a big hill.

Don’t forget how much Kiffin is STILL hated in Tennessee, for the way that ended.

They renamed the waste water treatment plant (sewage) after him.
