AT on KQTT
1/3 NL, effective stacks about 500. Villain knows how to play postflop, limp/calls with 54o, etc.
Hero open raises BTN to 10 with AcTc, BB calls. Flop (18) KcQsTh x/x. Turn Ts for KcQsThTs, villain bets 15, call. River (44) 6h for KcQsThTs, villain bets 30, hero???

Raise the turn. As played, raise the river.
What are we giving away free cards on the flop for? Get him off a random queen, get value from JT, dont let 99 get there. On turn, raise. We rather target the portion of his range that has SDV from the flop like Kx instead of getting him to maybe bluff river. On river ask yourself if you were bluffing how much would you bet to get KJ to fold? Probably like 200 right? So size down and make it 150 to get that call.
Also scratch your read; anyone limping 54o from any position is a fish, and fish dont play well postflop.
I actually raised the river to 90. Results later.
I'd play it the same way and now raise/fold the river to like $75 - $90.

Result was villain called the river raise and showed AJo for a flopped straight.

Probably just call, and hate myself when V says he has a K.
It's possible for V to have KQ or worse that will call a raise, but he can also have AJ, KT, or QT. Hard to find enough hands that will call a raise to make it seem much higher EV than just flatting.
Nice hand, imo.

If you’re gonna raise the river on a brick, why not just raise the turn to charge the flush and straight draws? Why give a free card?

Yes, this.
Not sure what hands we're targeting for value on the river. Busted draws fold. Better hands call or 3B. Maybe a fish calls with KQ/KJ, but those hands would have called a turn raise.

Right because villain who flats in the BB can't possible show up with worse Tx.
Also Smoola said it in the first response to this post. Raise turn, as played, raise river.
I'm fine with just flatting the turn cuz we're not always ahead, getting blown off our boat equity sucks, and I'm assuming "Villain knows how to play postflop" means he is capable of continuing to bluff against weakness on the river when he has no chance at winning the pot.
Not saying there aren't arguments for raising, but it's probably close?

Yeah, I flat called the turn, because there were a lot of hands that could be ahead of me and I didn't want to get 3!. If he had a draw, he might bluff the river if he missed or call the river with a draw and pair. Not saying that was the best play.
I thought he would go bigger than 2/3 pot with most hands ahead of mine, so I thought I was usually ahead, so raised.
