Weird preflop action(s)

2/2 live 5 to call 8 handed

Rock straddle for 5 is out every hand in weird positions.

Co is maniac rock straddles for 10, he opens like 80% of the time.

Action starts from the btn
Btn is a tag/lag iso 3betting maniac very frequently, blind raises to 25
2 callers
Hero in mp with a975ds??? effective 700

hj/lj/co has yet to act.
If we call, Co might 3bet a high percentage of the time.
If we 3bet, co isn't 4betting unless with a real hand.

Is this a fold? call? 3bet?

I would like a little more connectivity to 3b. Call and fold both have merit, since it’s live I probably call and then call the inevitable 3b.

In game we called, thinking of calling or jamming over the 3bets.
LJ calls as well.
Co 3bets pot to like 180
2 callers

Then I finally realized it was too expensive with this trashy hand.
Jamming isn't getting any folds as well. I mucked and felt stupid losing the initial 25.

Such a "pretty" hand, but I don't want to put a lot of money in with it. Knowing CO will 3bet, I just fold. Better candidates.

I think you should call the 180 after initial call, or even backjam.

Against maniacs we should look for spots to play big pots light. Ds axxx with connectability qualify even if the double gap is not amazing. Raw equity should be sufficient.

Very easy 3bet for me. There is a blind raise and you have a strong hand. You have a nitty reputation because you are not 3betting this hand like you should be.

If I know straddel 3bets blind I'll consider calling and backjamming. Hand is great against random nonsense.

They invested like 180, they're not folding for 500 more.

You don't need them to fold. Again, this is a great hand against random nonsense.

for perspective

Hero has a hand that performs both well HU or multiway, and decent equity against aaxx, so normally willing to see a flop with sufficient money behind

its biggest flaw is it doesn't always play well multiway or OOP, or a big advantage vs maniac GII with anything (55/45)

so I understand not wanting to 3! initially but this is a great configuration for this hand in other respects, this is in most ways too good a spot to pass up - its almost impossible for Hero shove to be negative EV no matter what happens afterward

in the home run scenario Hero folds out the dead money and GII as equity favorite vs maniac

This will happen often. call and have to fold. part of the game. If players are good and aggro table, try changing tables or seats to get better position.
Starting hand is also not that strong. Good fold after 3b from co.

Months ago, I've changed seats to get ip vs the maniac, one reg called me pro bum hunter. It's frowned upon on.
Also some people here recommend sitting directly to the right of the maniac, which I don't really like.
It's like I always have to trap with a monster or fold.
It gets so bad that the maniac adjusts his flop betting range, and we never get a chance to get the money in. I personally prefer to sit directly to the left of him.
Also if we limp/3bet vs him when he's sitting directly to our left, we'd be out of position every hand postflop.
I rather seat behind him and 3bet iso ip vs him then play a postflop game which the lag was doing the whole night.

In game, the seat was fine imho, we were like directly across the maniac + the lag iso 3betting light vs him.

His left is the death seat, we act first every street. ISO in position is great til the guy on his right limp 4b us.
