I just recently rejoined Netflix and was pleased to see they have added a "Watch Instantly" feature where you can stream

Just finished a full re-watch of The West Wing.
Shocking how good the first 3 seasons are. Just absolute bangers.

Gets lost with Sorkin burning out and then leaving after season 4. 20+ episodes a year, just brutal. If they did 10 episodes for 8 years, guarantee it would be a GOAT top 5.

Seasons 6 and 7 are much better than I remember. The campaign story lines at least work. The White House content is mostly great actors carrying mediocre material. Allison Janney is spectacular.

--------------
If you have the inclination, check out the 1st 2 seasons at least. Especially "Two Cathedrals", the 2nd season finale.

Agreed (WW)

I just finished episode 7 of Stranger Things season 5. One more episode to go.

The first 5 episodes were pretty epic. The episode 6 and 7 storylines were cringe. All the side love interests are cringe.

Stranger Things is the first show that I really like but hate the characters.

You just reminded me and turns out WW is on HBO now. Not missing dropping Netflix 3 months into the experiment.

i did hate though how the chief of staff would need a reminder how a veto worked just as an excuse for audience exposition

but yeah - vaguely recall first few seasons being amazing and then it faltering a little before ending cleanly with hurricane santos

It’s one of my favourites ever. Agree the middle seasons weren’t brilliant but watchable. And then I loved the final season too

I love all seasons of The West Wing, as imperfect as some of them are.

when you say middle seasons how many do you mean? never watched it before

but if talkig 3-4 of 6 seasons then surely its bad series to watch akin to GoT last 1-2 series

watched 2 eps of Run Away last night. feels very garbage.

It's 7 seasons, but 20+ episodes per season. It's almost impossible to produce 20 banger episodes in a year, but WW comes close.

1-4 are the Sorkin years, where he wrote most episodes. You can see Season 4 getting away from him. (The finale and John Goodman are some of my least favorite parts of the show.)
Season 1-3 stand up with any show. 4-5 start to wander, but acting really carries it. 6-7 are renewed with Smits and Alda leading.

I just completed Stranger Things final episode season 5.

It was pretty neat until the last 30 minutes which was absolute garbage. They tried to tug at your emotions but it failed miserably.

Stranger Things could have been so much better than it was. This could have rivaled GOT's with better writing. It certainly could have done without a couple of the long drawn out relationship story lines.

It’s 8 seasons long. The middle seasons…(maybe 5 and 6?) weren’t as good but I enjoyed all of them

It had it's moments, but felt lazy and played it way too safe. That said, in terms of worst series finales in history, it still wasn't as bad as the original Dexter or GOT finales.

I must be one of the only peeps out there that actually liked GOT and The Sopranos finale (even if it was precipitated...), didn't mind Dexter's and easily brushed off BattleStar's (even if it unrealistically promised the world to the audience)

Sopranos finale is fine, great even. GoT’s is not.

The finale of GoT is fine in a vacuum. If you sat down a new viewer and explained most of plot of the whole show, then had them watch the finale, they probably wouldn’t see anything wrong with it. Because they would assume that everything to that point had been EARNED. But in reality, nothing in the last two seasons was earned in any ****ing way, shape, or form. It was just a connect-the-dots speedrun where the stakes didn’t even feel real anymore.

lol glad you asked

it is never bad

it's just not as good - goes from a 9/10 to a 7/10

there's some fairly hokey personal plotlines about dating/personal relationships in the later seasons which are kind of annoying but they are surrounded by the policy talk which you clearly love (and why you're still watching in season 5) so it's not a killer - just not as good

actually looking at the wiki, it seems like season 6 was the good return with the campaign trail and 7 was the mid level one where it went back to bartlett

The final season was both, wasn’t it? My second watch was prolly ten years ago but I thought final season was split between Josh on the campaign trail and then some Bartlett type stuff with CJ as chief of staff

by whatthejish

Well we will have to agree to disagree then : GOT's last 2 season was very solid and sure, the pacing was absolutely mismanaged, no doubt there, with certain episodes dragging on and others RACING af, like the final episode, sure, but what was even more disproportionate to the actual pace of the show, was the audience expectations 🙄

I'm so slow it took me over 30 years to realize Lake of Fire was not a Pearl Jam song; always wondered who the extra dudes on stage were and turns out they were actual Meat Puppets

Since I'm assuming we must be talking about Nirvana unplugged, why would you think Lake of Fire was a Pearl Jam song?

The Pitt winning at The Critics Choice Awards along with Noah and Katherine LaNasa.

Rhea Seehorn winning best actress in a drama series.

lot of recent discussion about dark and how amazing it is

someone said if it was made in english it would have been considerd the GOAT

i was 3 eps in and I couldn't get into it I felt was a huge psychological thriller and im too dumb to follow

I binged sopranos in about 2 months one time a few years ago

the ending was fine. tough to end some of these type of shows tho, BB and better call saul did it well
the wire did it well as well for the most part

vince def planned BB all out same with BCS which always helps to know prior how the WHOLE story is gonna go

unlike lost where its season by season
