What stakes? Is Phil Helmuth just going to hop onto a random $1/$2 table and sit down and play with $300?

No way he will do that. He’ll sit with $100.

When I asked I was told he'd be hopping tables through the room, 30 mins or so a table. I took that to mean any games that were running.

He played at each table for 30 minutes. They kept 2 seats open at each table and rotated phil/ deeb and the other people from his group around. The whole week end was well run and tons of fun. The level of excitement in the room was 110% really great event for NH poker. They are going to do it again next year and call it the granite state poker championship. Looking forward to it.

Really sad to see how far Gate City has fallen. They are my local room that I have been going too for ages.

Last summer during the week days there were almost always 3-5 games going, this summer maybe 1-3 with literally the same faces!

Numbers of active tables has been decreasing, the 1/3 MTS game seems to have moved to the Nash, and PLO barely runs anymore. HH promos have dried up and decreased over the past several months.

I wonder if it will ever get back to the way it was....

The Nash has taken portion of their former business which accounts for much of the decline. I expect that the situation will be like in Salem where there isn't enough room for both of them. Let alone that there are 6 casinos with poker rooms trying to cover a total population of 700,000. Some are going to have to fail.

It's all about the promos and Gate City's are fairly weak. If you want the volume, have the best promo's.
You can see the traffic increase at every room whenever a big promo is offered.

But I agree, we'll probably see some consolidation at some point due to saturation.

yeah if you're ever unsure of the impact of promos, watch as 1/3 of the player pool racks up and leaves once they stop for the day

It's smart to do this if the room continues to take a promo drop even when there's no promo running.

If the promo is running 11:00-23:00, then there's a bunch of human psychology reasons why people will pick around 23:00 to leave instead of 21:00. And people need to sleep.

I do think promos. that good regs. don't really want (like high hands) bring in bad regs. ... and no promos. but less rake wouldn't be better (but maybe no promos. and timed play would be better).
It's just not obvious to me how much better promos. are, and if different promos. would be better.

Years ago, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun played around with different options on promos. Mohegan decided they wouldn't run them while Foxwoods did. When Mohegan relented, a floor told me that their traffic went up 25%. Foxwoods ran a trial where the 2/5 game rake was 4+0. but the tables weren't eligible for the bad beat. Whenever the bad beat got over $200k, people left the 2/5 tables for 1/2.

Even if the promo hunters were "good", they played sub-optimally. And the bad ones would call anything that had a chance to be a big hand pf. Makes for good games.

Over 5 years since new england had a tournament series anywhere what the heck is going on?? Even a series as small as a megastack at fowwoods that was haulted in march 2020(covid) still hasn't been matched even with an overwhelming demand for live tournaments in the area. Yeah I'm venting a bit but really what the heck?

Montreal is gonna be the closest thing we get, because Playground has got 44 tables.

Per Poker Atlas, here in 2025 the five biggest rooms in New England are:

Foxwoods (35)
Mohegan (33)
Encore (24)
The Nash (19)
And then Chasers and Bally's Twin River tie at 16 tables each.

(5 out of the 6 Los Angeles area casinos on Poker Atlas have more than 50 tables, by way of comparison.)

Encore would have been the central place for such a thing before they got rid of half the tables.

I think it is more the number of dealers available than tables. At least 1 NH room is struggling to find enough dealers to cover their cash games, let alone anything extra. Deciding not to pay OT doesn't help them.

Are you talking about Chasers?
And any company that won’t pay OT especially when they’re so short handed and need these people to work extra hours daily, is a poop company overall. Shady

100%. Without our dealers we have no game. Support them by boycotting these rooms I say

How did the Fall Series go over at the Nash?

There was a fall series at the nash?

Anyone know whats going on with Salem Casino ? Poker has been removed from Poker Atlas altogether and rumor has it they will not be opening at that location, although they were already running at 10 %.

They're owned by Churchill Downs, same a s nearby Chasers, so poker has been a question already.

Anyone have info ?

Interesting. Chasers just re-introduced tournaments, too.

I was told the whole casino has to shut down for 18 months because of structural issues with the planned 3-story buildout. But maybe it's just the poker room, because I can't find any news report about it. I heard this discussion between a GCC dealer and a Chasers dealer.

Gate City Casino used to be my go to poker room of choice but things have gone hill so much in the past few months. During the past two weeks they were constantly down dealers, games were slower and filled with the traditional omc/reg types, and even on busy days they couldnt open up tables despite it being high volume days with 15+ in the room waiting for a seat!

Maybe ask yourself why has the state of NH given so many licenses out the past 5 years and you'll get your answer. You're most likely bad at math for even visiting these rooms(also encore) to begin with. The only room worthy of getting your business in new england right now is ballys twin river and maybe mohegn and foxwoods and that isn't saying much. In this region we are pretty much cooked. Everywhere else around the country is getting record numbers BTW. Ask yourself why.

I've only been back once since the Nash opened, and that was for a $1k high hand promo. Even before last year, Gate City was all 1/2 rake trap games, which don't feed into any bigger games because no one can beat the rake. This was an obvious problem 7+ years of inflation ago, but there's no one there with half a brain.

Bad at math how? Rake at the Nash is $5+3. Isn't it higher in RI and CT?

Pulled these numbers from PokerAtlas -
Lilac: 10% up to $5
Chasers: 10% up to $5, plus $3 for promo
Nash: 10% up to $5, plus $3 for promo
GateCity: 10% up to $5, plus $3 for promo
Revo: 10% up to $5, some but not all locations also have a $1 promo drop

Bally's 10% up to $8
Foxwoods up to $6+$1
Mohegan 10% up to $7, plus $2
