It's impossible to ever really know why trump made the ultimate decision to invade. Possibly to remove Maduro. Possibly for the oil. Possibly because he likes bullying weaker countries. Possibly because people in his ear wanted to. And quite likely to distract from the epstein files. He just does stuff without any sort of high level strategic thinking and usually just to benefit his own ego.

Maduro made it easier in Trump's mind to go to Venezuela. He doesn't have an 'easy' reason/excuse to go to Can/Green, which is why it will be very difficult for him to go there.
