I run a Jazz education nonprofit up here in the Twin Cities. St. Paul Public School band directors have been calling me to say that more than half their music students aren’t showing up. These teachers have been spending their own money on groceries and delivering food to their students. To help with this, my non-profit is rewriting its by-laws so we can legally redirect funds to help these music students and their families.

There are 3000 armed ICE agents patrolling our streets. For context, Minneapolis has just 600 police officers—maybe the Twin Cities has a total of 1161 if you include the St. Paul PD. Why are there more than twice as many federal agents as local police patrolling our streets? Is it because we have less than 1% of the American immigrant population? Or is it because we are “Sanctuary Cities”?
