What exactly are "citizenship proving papers"?

What exactly are "citizenship proving papers"?

One would be the New York Post.

What non-American would ever read that newspaper?

i carry a driver's license. i don't think that proves citizenship.

why do you think that. a lot of them do state by state which is why op will refuse to say what state hes in

Not true at all. For example, you can get a driver's license in all fifty states if you have a green card. Green cards by definition are issued only to non-citizens.

The only people in the U.S. who carry around their passports are people who need ID for a specific reason and have no other form of ID and people with non-white skin who are afraid they will be targeted by ICE even though they are citizens.

Also, I stand corrected about whether my driver's license proves citizenship. According to what Victor posted, the new enhanced driver's licenses in NY State are proof of citizenship. So the correct answer would be that I did not carry anything that proved my citizenship until very recently.

are people with green cards not legal citizens? I don't know much about it but its official name is "permanent resident card" Sounds like your pretty much an American to me. or your some documented future American

Ya if you live in New York your id does certainly not prove citizenship. But who knows maybe they have a database of every legal American citizen and when you don't pop up in that database they know your not.

They are certainly not " Carry Citizenship Proving Papers" tho so I get your point. op pretty much worded it like that to troll me 😀

By definition, one would not need a green card if one were a citizen.

A green card shows you are in the USA legally for the purposes of employment.

I see I was wrong but the original topic we were talking about in the other thread was illegal immigration. I always assumed a green card ment you were an American now because its shown in popular media as being obtained through marriage with an American and in most country's that would just give you citizenship. So just change illegal with legal.

I never assumed legal migrants couldn't get driver license that logic makes no sense just the illegal ones.

I do think in 20 years America will catch up with the times and id will become mandatory tho. Most likely starting in the blue states

I don't and never have.

this guy has never left the USA. oof

Another thread driven by two know-nothing Canucks telling us how unreasonable our blue states willingness to give drivers licenses to immigrant residents and to not carry proof of citizenship papers. When will it stop?

I wouldn't really call this a thread. This guy made two threads about a topic covered extensively in another thread in like 6 hours. if I'm going to derail one I'm glad it was this one. It should probably hit the muck. I didn't know you could make such silly ones I might try a few out for fun.

Actually im pretty sure he made this thread based on something I said in his other thread. so actually this is my thread maybe lozen is right!

You're not an American. Please do not post in this thread.

Only items I possess that prove I'm a citizen (that I'm aware of) are my birth certificate and my passport. I never carry them with me, and there was a time when I possessed neither.

I assume there are other documents that prove citizenship, but I do not know what they are.

I may fall into this camp. My license is now a REAL ID, which may prove citizenship but I'm not sure.

I have never carried a document with the intention of needing to prove citizenship except when traveling internationally.

REAL ID does not prove citizenship and are not the same thing as Enhanced drivers licenses.

Oh. I think I have real ID, so now I am back to not carrying proof of citizenship.

I have my birth certificate. Maybe I should bring it with me if I decide to participate in an anti-ICE rally.

would be a sick move if you were born in america to a foreign diplomat and on birth received a US birth certificate, but not citizenship, and then many years later you flashed that birth certificate to ICE and they let you go even though you're not a US citizen.

I can't believe this has even become a topic of discussion.

I think the OP was trolling

Only two people (including me) even answered the polling question.

American apathy. It's been too easy here for too long. People have completely lost perspective.

I typically carry my passport in my backpack, which I usually have with me. The purpose isn't to prove citizenship, it's because the CO driver licenses used to not scan half the time in the airport so it was handy to have with me. Although the new real ID licenses don't have that issue.
