How much do you think it would cost to do the Edinburgh Fringe right?

Stay for a good while in a nice Central place. Eat in nice places, several shows a day.

I reckon you could easily spend Β£10k.

I did four days up there two years ago, stayed in a nice hotel, ate in nice restaurants, drank heavily, went to 4-5 shows a day

hotel was Β£350/day, I reckon I spent an average of Β£250/day on food and drink, shows were probably the cheap part at Β£10-20/ticket so maybe Β£75/day

in total Β£675/day, so I probably spent about Β£2.7k, was a good time

based off that rate, Β£10k would do you about two weeks, although I'm not sure I could manage that energy-wise

250 a day on food/drink???? jfc!

I went to Panera(USA shitty chain food place). I got a green smoothie and oatmeal. it was 20 bucks. 500 calories. 8-9 for smoothie, and 8-9 for oatmeal, and then tax and tip

seems like restaurant prices have soared. or idk, maybe it's just cuz I never eat out, so I have sticker shock.

I was really surprised McDonald's was 40 bucks for two people

my home meals are around 3 dollars a meal

it's all gobbo's fault, he introduced me to fine dining and it turns out I love it

filthy - mcdonalds has engaged in couponing - those who order off the menu pay full price - those who squirrel away and get the deals on the app pay much less

but then you need to go through the hassle of installing the app and then ordering the restricted options it gives you for the deals

I'd rather die than install a McDonald's app

fair enough and i respect that - but then you'll need to get used to $40 meals if you continue to patronize them

I might eat McDonald's 1-2 more times in my life. I'm not worried about that particular business.

just inflation is distressing. so are apps. the world is passing me by. and it seems to be getting worse

We went to fringe a couple years ago and spent like nothing, though we got free room at someone's place.

After weeks of illness --physical and mental both-- I finally am feeling somewhat human again.

warm rice salad with peanut soy dressing, tofu, cauliflower, orange bell peppers, sweet chile sauce, sesame seeds, and red pepper flakes

Perfect survival food for the arriving 3 feet of snow!

Great job!

That's pretty funny, actually. Survival food was kind of what I was eating when I was feeling so ill. Among other culinary masterpieces, I stirred vegan mayo and low sodium ketchup into a cold can of chickpeas and ate it.

I found a frozen Butter Chicken & Rice entrΓ©e from Aplenty that I adore so I am currently living on that and oatmeal.

glad you're feeling better vr! <3

the other night for dinner I had unsalted sunflower seeds with hot mustard sauce(left over from McDonald's chicken mcnuggets)

If either of you gentlemen live near an Aldi they have a really good lentil vegetable korma ready to eat in a pouch for around three dollars. Would definitely recommend.

never heard of Aldi. there is one 6 miles from me. I'll check it out. thanks!

Earlier today, I had Madras lentils and potato salad for lunch. It's been awhile since having them. Enjoyed it.

My brother, who is quite let's call it parsimonious, told me he mainly shops at Aldi. I've never been there.

Of the grocery stores I've been to, it's one of them.

It's a poor man's trader Joe's.

Pog's own domer made the bigtime yesterday, featured in a big NYTimes piece on Polymarket. There's even a photo zomg! (that 1st photo isn't him; it's in the middle of the story.)

edit: probably have to pay to see it.

Aldi's here aren't bad but they're kinda gross. That plus the crowded aisles and parking lots, I just steer clear. And ugh all the smug yuppies.

Dollar General is more my speed.

They used to have poor quality produce often, but that issue has been completely fixed in my area. They're owned by the brother of the family that owns TJ's, or at least they used to be. They have very employee friendly pay and benefits and are closed for major holidays, which I like.

Aldi is very different than 10-15 years ago and has a lot more distinct brands, even though the brands are still their own. Earth Grown is the brand of the chickpea and lentil Indian dishes, and Earth Grown is very reliable. Their Aldi brand packaged cookies, granola bars, cereals, etc are reliable, but their dorito/cheeto/flavored potato chips tend to be lousy except when they are Specially Selected brands, which are great. I picked up a really nice black truffle Specially Selected potato chips last year. Their cheese and deli selections are very good--except for the blueberry and honey cheeses, which most of my friends like but I find a bit oversweet.

Their baked items can be hit or miss. Their cheesecakes and breads tend to be outstanding, but their muffins have always disappointed me.

But anything Earth Grown is generally very good, and vegan if that's important to anyone you know.

i love dollar tree for a bunch of select items

it's elite for:
deodorant (smaller but cheaper per ounce than buying at costco)
toothpaste (name brand colgate/crest/etc for 1.25),
mouth wash (name brand and much larger generics)
shampoo/bodywash
candy (becoming less of a deal as packages get smaller and grocery stores lowering their prices to compete)
corn tortillas
seasoning like salt/pepper/paprika/etc
generic over the counter medicine (but big box stores now offering generic tylenol etc for like $2 now in response)
stationary
car things
cords/wall outlets
stocking stuffers (got mini jenga made of wood for $1.25, mini etch a sketches)
energy drinks - sugarfree rockstar and occasionally have monster (usually the weird flavored variants that didn't find a market but sometimes the regular ones)

dollar general is just gross - like let's imagine a grocery store where everything is frozen and cooked in the microwave

I'm not really sure what drives the decisions to shop at Aldi, just had one open nearby but it's right across the street from Wal Mart which has much broader selection and (probably) lower prices. Maybe you go to Aldi to avoid the people shopping in their pajamas?
