I was a protest this weekend. Armed... w/ a sign. It was organized by a group of local moms. I know my community well enough and was like, I'm showing up there because they'll need some muscle.
Pretty much went down as expected. Took a lot of sht from locals. Had several guys come up into my face. Local women called in their men (we were warned by other women close to the action), who showed up at the end of the march to try and start sht and be agitators.
We of course outsmarted them and disbanded before that point into different directions... but this is pretty much a perfect microcosm of what we're dealing with.
also just a general **** you to the constitution. written by literal slave owners who wrote that black people were worth 3/5 of a person. all kinds of other ****ed up **** in there too.
and **** the decleration of independence too. it says "merciless indian savages"... and was written by Thomas Jefferson who regularly raped his teenage slave.
also cnn says pretti might have been targeted by agents after this encounter

we don't have healthcare precisely because we don't live in a democratic society.
it's seeming like we're gonna need a revolution to have democracy. we haven't been able to do through voting. the two parties openly collude to prevent democracy. the only way to win a vote is to spend the most money, and lick the boot of our corporate rulers.

if I remember right the 3/5ths clause right, it was about counting state population for representation. white people counted as one person, and black people counted as 3/5 of a person. maybe I'm wrong.

i'm a communist. it's not perfect. but I believe many communist countries would be doing pretty ****ing great if it wasn't for capitalist empires crushing the life out of them.
look at Russia for example. in 1916 they were a backwards fuedalist society. they had a communist revolution, and less than 50 years later they were a world power, space fairing nation. and beat the Nazi empire, and had most of the world ganging up to crush the life out of them.
this is an incredible accomplishment. world class education. world class healthcare. life expectancy. world class art. and again, all the major powers of the war doing everything they could to crush them.
or take Cuba. tiny island with a population the same is Los Angeles county. on the doorstep of USA, having to overcome crushing blockade... they still have healthcare, education. I mean they produced their own COVID vaccine. could you imagine LA producing it's own vaccine? they send doctors all over the place.
so basically it's hard to point a country "doing it right" when USA empire does everything it can to stop people from doing it right.

I don’t think most people use the word democracy the way that you do. I’m not sure why you want to use it when there are perfectly good other words that you could use that wouldn’t cause confusion.

You’re not wrong that the 3/5 compromise was in the constitution at the framing. But it wasn’t a declaration that black people were worth 3/5 of a person. The compromise was between the Northerners who opposed slavery and didn’t want to give slave states any extra representatives. Hence, they argued that slaves should not be counted at all in population of states. The Southern states wanted the entire slave population to count towards their representation in congress/the electoral college.
You’re implying that by counting slaves as 3/5 of a person for the purposes of congressional/electoral college representation, that this means they are declaring they are morally 3/5 of a person. But from that it would follow that you think it would be less racist to count them wholly in the population of the state. That would mean you would think it’s less racist for the slave states to have more power.
In truth the anti-slavery position would be to make slaves count nothing towards representation. If they did that would you say that they think black people are worthless? If so that would be a pretty silly conclusion to draw, in my opinion.
