What is driving 2 consecutive posts from the same user within the same thread being merged?

Hello mods,

I noticed that consecutive posts within the same thread oftentimes (or always?) get merged. Is that something that happens automatically or do you mods decide on a case by case basis when such posts get merged?
I am asking this because I am currently posting about a rather complex subject, which for better readability it would be greatly helpful to keep posts separated as intended.

Thank you!

I do this quite often - for example, when I think it's more helpful to readers if consecutive posts are merged, or if someone is simply reading a thread and commenting on others' posts as they get to them instead of using the inbuilt multi-quote method. It's probably an ACDC thing of mine and I doubt if many, if any, other mods do it, too.

Obviously, merges can be undone upon request; but, actually, I've never received such a request.

Carry on with your thread, and I'll try to stop twitching. With a name like yours, I'll probably remember not to disturb your complaints to WPN Management about their treatment of your account; assuming that is what you will be posting more about.

I hope you are not disillusioned, when I tell you I am not the real one 😀
Oh, and I meant to say thank you for answering, not thank you for staying clear of my posts. So thank you for answering! 😀

I do it as well from time to time - mostly in this situation:
