That email was extreme and I'm not excusing it, but might you consider what behavior might have precipitated such a response and the pressure put on David to write that?

No and **** David for writing that ****.

I've been in some really ****ing toxic relationships so I understand the email as a snapshot of a very specific point in time and how that might not reflect the overall standing of a person

But ccing CN on it was objectively wild

No, honestly, no. Stuff like this is not excusable! And you are actually trying to excuse it.

He only suggested suicide, once. What a light-weight!

@mason: how dare you to protect such a awful human being?

Did this mail didn‘t get him into legal problems?

I believe suggesting that one commit suicide will get one banned from these forums.

The hubris is insane when you remember he was a C list celebrity in a C list genre. Unknown to 99.9% of people even in the poker boom days. Although I’m sure he knew he was bluffing

It doesn't really matter what precipitated it.

by Mason Malmuth

It's my opinion that David still being alive was a low probability event

This is an odd way to talk about a friend's serious health problems.

Exactly how I would expect a math guy to respond tho haha. Hey he’s being honest at least

Who took the pin out of the grenade?

Speaking as the other recipient of that email twenty years ago, you have no idea what you’re talking about.

Following advice from my attorney, that’s all that I’ll say.

Funny, but I don’t remember protecting anyone. Perhaps you can find a post to refresh my memory.

Does your memory recall the summer WSOP around this same time where you lost your temper and physically assaulted Micon and others who came by your book stand? I was there and got shoved during that altercation.

No.

Then your memory is the problem.

I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth V. Michelle Carter. She got 2 years for telling her boyfriend to commit suicide and he eventually did it. She was out in 1 year.

There is a doc on HBO Max on it.

That’s pretty f’d up that he encouraged her to kill herself and then she actually did. I find it hard to find any excuse for a 50-60 year old man (at the time) to be talking to a 20-something girl like that. Really indefensible no matter the conduct that preceded.

Basically the only option available is to leave the poker world forever. Ply your trade elsewhere. Suicide wouldn't be a bad option either. If you do that I will promise to stop badmouthing you.

So, I'm not saying this to David Sklansky. I just want to know whether saying something like this to David Sklansky would get someone banned and, if so, whether it matters if the person said it to him here or elsewhere.

It's my opinion that David still being alive was a low probability event, but I do understand that he's doing better.

This thread serves as a preview how his "in memory" thread might look like and what people from the internet poker / 2+2 heyday are going to remember him for.

Wishing harm to others in forum posts is regarded as unacceptable. Deletions, edits or bans are very likely to follow.

Good one! Yeah, old wisdom, but still applies. Living a life according to these doesn't guarantee you that you'll get help in times of need, but it will keep you out of trouble.

lol quotes from that ridiculous bible are meaningless

Mason - is David still alive? If so, can you ask him how to play a pair of eights? I never know what to do with that hand. tia
