What TV Should I Buy

I'm running well this month so I figured a new TV was reasonable. I last bought a TV a year ago and I went for a cheapo model (it's the right size, 1080p, but the color contrast is poor) that does especially poorly with the color Red. And Red is a freaking primary color (blue. yellow. red.) so it's likely affecting a lot more than just basic red things.

I've been to Best Buy, walking past the TVs is disappointing and I leave quickly usually. I am slightly sensitive to light and so the colors emitted from a TV are either mesmerizing or in a way hideous. I don't especially trust any particular review website, and AI has been pissing me off latley, which is why I come to you OOT for TV buying assistance.

I only use it for playing video games. Specifically Switch 2.

help me decide!

If it's only for gaming, just buy a gaming monitor. OLED and a good refresh rate. You should be set.

Very interested to hear responses as I'm starting to consider a new TV myself.

I currently have a ~8 y/o LG OLED - which has been really, great for the most part. The problem is 'burn in' over time. Logos, things like status bars (YouTube TV, YouTube, etc), and even just areas of high use like the center of the screen start to lose vibrance. I was watching a Broncos game a few weeks back - and was SHOCKED at how bright the orange jerseys were when players were on the edge of the screen versus the middle.

That said, the blacks are very black, and the picture is generally great. It's going to be really hard for me to get away from OLED in the future, particularly as I've heard they've gotten a bit better about this stuff since I bought mine.

My folks recently got a Sony LED, and it's not bad. It took quite a bit of work to get the picture to a place I was happy with when setting it up for them. All the motion correction BS just seems to create the "soap opera" effect which I abhor.

I actually have an older Sony LED as well - but the edges seem to be delaminating or something, after not being used for a while. It was amazing for many years.

I also used to rely on AVS forums as a place for settings when purchasing a TV. As with most forums, it seems the traffic has decreased a bit over the years, but there's still some good info.

RTings seems to be the new place for relatively reliable testing and settings. I don't love it - but might have some decent info as well.

I got some tips from GPT but it's not great. It recommended a few models, the top being a $1,000 OLED TV which is hard to justify.

Seems THIS would be perfect if it's within your budget.

It appears I can easilly connect my laptop and do computer work on it!

This may be the one... 😃

This is what I have now. I think I paid $300 or so at the time. I have my PC and PS5 hooked up to it, and bought an HDMI splitter so I can just press a button to switch between the two.

I'm torn between upgrading to that LG or getting a new guitar.

Nice man, you play Electric? I've been infatuated with PRS's (Paul Reed Smith), but I'm not sure if it's true love or not. I'm deciding what to spend on as well.

The bird inlays look crazy nice.

TV that NGH linked is available on Amazon at the same price. Will be buying later today!

I mostly play classical. Right now I'm playing on a Cordoba C9. One day I'd like to get an actual handmade classical.

I also play electric, but I tend to buy them and then trade them or resell them. No lie, I actually had that exact same PRS (but in green). Played great.

This is what I'm looking at getting next though.

I have two PRS, a 30th anniversary SE Custom with the abolone inlays, and a Hollowbody. I need to put locking tuners on the SE Custom and get it set up, it was brilliant straight from the factory but now is drifting a lot.

The hollowbody is my most-played guitar currently. Paul is a genius. An ass hole, but a genius.

Love that gold top and every chance an Epiphone is superior to a Gibson these days.

Looks great, sounds great. Should be a good time.

The resolution of 2p2's TEXT is a tiny bit frayed when connecting my small laptop to this big screen, even set to gaming mode.

I read video games will work flawlessly.

Poker should be good too I hope.

Thank you all.

Looks sharp. Congrats!

No offense to OP, but I stopped reading here. If you bought a TV a year ago, replacing it this soon cannot be the best way to use your windfall.

Depends on the difference. Going from a standard 1080p to 4k OLED seems worth the upgrade.

The TV is lifechanging.

A monthly update:

The TV/monitor continues to be a flawless victory even after the newness has worn off. It's enormous and beautiful and I can't imagine using a large screen without a curve.

The PRS also is flawless and remains intensely enjoyable to play.

Yay!
