Fighting the 4-table limit and restrictive regulations in Germany (GlüStV)

Hi everyone,

As many of you know, the current German interstate treaty on gambling (GlüStV) has introduced some of the most restrictive measures for online poker globally—most notably a strict 4-table limit across all platforms.

This doesn't just hurt professionals; it effectively kills the ecosystem by pushing players toward unregulated black-market sites, undermining the very goal of player protection.

I have started an official petition to challenge these limits and advocate for a more reasonable, market-standard approach (similar to other regulated EU markets).

Link to the petition:

https://www.openpetition.de/petition/onl...

Even if you aren't based in Germany, the "German Model" is often cited by regulators worldwide. Stopping these illogical restrictions here helps prevent them from spreading elsewhere.

I’d appreciate your support, signatures (if applicable), and any advice from those who have successfully fought regulatory overreach in other jurisdictions.

Support from the Community:

I am currently in the process of reaching out to leading figures in the German poker scene, including Benjamin Rolle (bencb789) and Felix Schneiders (xflixx). The goal is to unite the community’s top coaches and ambassadors to put pressure on the regulators. This isn't just a solo mission; we are aiming for a coordinated effort to save the German poker ecosystem.

Thanks for your support!

Move to a non communist country

.....but, but, but you can change your gender a few times per year in Germany 😆

Anyway, will obv sign and wish the petition to have success, but I just don't have high hopes for that. I'm German and left my country 18 years ago, never looked back. Have lived since that in 3 countries and each of them has been more free and liberal than Germany. If your petition has no success, try it again in a decade. My guess is, that current economic German downfall and the crazy socialist ideas will bring up one day a "German" Milei, fingers crossed.

...and the crazy socialist ideas.

not going bankrupt from a broken leg is totally stalin!!!

It's awful what they've done to Germany and Europe as a whole. Hell, we couldn't even escape them on 2+2.

We are in a similar situation in Ireland where we will be restricted to €10 max buyin which will force the operators out of our country and like your example drive them to the black market.

Our politicians don't care about whether it is a game of skill, they have made up their mind it is evil and want it gone.

Our idiot responsible for it is Minster for Housing now and since he has been there more than one record for homelessness has been broken including the number of children homeless.

Anyway I support your action and hope you achieve your aim. Hopefully we can still beat the **** out of each other on the poker table when this is done.

im playing micro stakes atm but 10€ max buyin sounds not good also, especially when you want to move up in stakes..
thanks for your reply. hope it goes trough ^^

Not buying that! It's almost never about "protecting" people from something evil, it's most of the time about monopolies, money and taxes. Once the state has established a source of money, it won't let go that easy. In Germany, more than a hundred years ago, was introduced a tax on champagne to finance the German Imperial Navy. Can't see any of those ships nowadays, but the tax is still there.

In Netherlands they dont understand it either

The irony is that every decision they make is amazing for the illegal market and terrible for the legal market.
They keep on arguing they are protecting players but are taking away their rakeback and pretty much forcing them to illegal sites/apps.

Im not sure its with ill intent, I honestly think their level of understanding the gambling/poker market is below the basement

Black market effect is obvious to anyone who follows the British market where KYC came in and within a year the figure spent on the black market jumped to nearly £4bn and rising.

This led to me reading more on my situation and I think we are ****ed later this year unless some deal is made to water it down. Hopefully they succeed in Germany in fighting this.

Maybe politicians lack of understanding on social interaction is why some of them allegedly attend sex parties rather than form a normal relationship with someone.

I always find it a bit strange when governments say stuff like "they spent 4billion on the black market" because they dont really keep receipts
I always feel like its so much more than they think.

In our country they say that the increase in gambling taxes was an excellent idea because a lot of people stopped gambling.... They dont even realize that all these players went to illegal platforms and the government is now missing those taxes as well.
Every other country raised the gambling tax too high and it got worse, yet they do it.
Its really uncanny how stupid politicians can be.

We never had to pay tax so I will say we were lucky to some degree but if they did I think it would have led to the same as in your country. The ironic thing is the legislation in my country only affects poker and pit games which is where the politicians (James Browne)(Fine Fail party) showed his stupidity. Poker to him is a casino pit game. Btw we can bet ourselves broke on Horse racing and football because people like JP McManus and John Magnier might complain if they tackled that shitshow. Another example of one rule for one and another for others based on nothing more than political influence.

The KYC example is a funny one given many people are wary of handing over a bank statement to even government agencies and these idiots claiming to protect people put regs in place that require players to hand over these docs to operators who want to get their hands on that money. I would never hand over this and thankfully that reg hasn't touched us yet.

Why don't they just give the security blueprints of Fort Knox to Gold thieves.

where have you lived?

I'm from Karlsruhe/Baden Württemberg, was in Portugal some years, which is hands down the best country I have ever been, Montenegro and now live in Serbia. My wife is from Serbia and when our kids became old enough for kindergarden/school we had to make the decision Germany or Serbia (we were living in Costa di Caparica/Portugal at that time) as I didn't want to expose them to a 3rd language (and I suck at speaking Portuguese), so decision was easy, Serbia it is. I have always been self-employed and have my own company, never have paid more taxes than in Germany, never have spent more time filling out pointless papers than in Germany. In case you understand German, gelesen, gelacht, gelocht. That's Germany!

No idea, how it is in the Netherlands, but in Germany having failed university, never having worked, highly qualifies you to become a politician. People not capable of earning a single € on the free market are running states, what could possibly go wrong?!

I play on Party, Bet365(Ipoker) and 888 and on Party I get a message about German regulation regarding a lock symbol beside a German player indicating when they win enough, money gets taken off the table, basically legal ratholing. Now what is odd is on the other two sites there is none of this. Anyone know why one site applies these regs and others don't?

Its not better here to be honest. We have a woman who worked all her life in the army as minister of housing and someone who studied urban planning as minister of defense.
Its how we roll... downhill very fast
