Why do WSOP circuit events play down to 5% of the field?

Seems like in most other tournament series 10% or 12.5% of the field is standard, why did WSOPc decide to use 5% across the board?

They make more rake money by getting more rebuys. A lot of people keep firing until they make day two or run out of flights to play. By only advancing 5% the same players can cash and reenter multiple times.

At least that's my read on it.

You are correct sir! That is why they do it.

The last few WSOP Circuit event series I have played in paid 15% of the field but only 10% made it to day 2. This was last fall 2025 in South Lake Tahoe (Harrahs) and in Baltimore (the Horseshoe). Then recently in Baltimore (2/18/26-3/2/26) it was the same thing.

They do it to make payouts seem higher. They rake out 25%+ of the buy in, there’s not much money left in the prize pool!
Boycott WSOP Circuit! With tournament rake over 20% even in $300+ events is proof of fact! All WSOP circuit should be boycotted! I don’t know how anyone thinks they can beat 20+% tournament rake, the pro and semi pro’s are losing the most money. Why don’t pros form a union and boycott the high rake? I’ve met too many players who gladly pay 25% WSOP rakes and they violently defend it when I present my opinion!!! Are poker players really desperate gambling addicts or simply dumb???
